Change default web browser quickly using Browser Tray Switch

Most people choose one browser as their default browser and never have to switch again. That’s fine for most of us, but there are instances when it’s necessary to change the default web browser to a different browser.

When you might ask? Well, if you are a web developer, for example, you may want to view your website in Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari and more, but each time you have to manually change the default browser in your web editor or you have to copy and paste the link.

Browser Tray Switch is a cool little application that you can use to quickly switch your default browser to a different browser.

change default browser

It’s a super small program, only 90KB, and it runs in your system tray. Just right-click on the icon and choose the browser you want to make your default browser. Now when you open an HTML page or click on a URL in an email, for example, it will open in the selected browser.

You can also use the program if you have multiple profiles in Firefox or IE setup. So if you have a Firefox profile that uses a proxy and one that doesn’t, you can easily switch between the two profiles using this program.

Another useful application of the program is to secure your system. The main developer has one browser, which he keeps as his default browser most of the time, that cannot access the Internet.

This means that malicious software programs, spyware, etc that load up using the default web browser will not work. When he wants to access the Internet, he just switches to a different browser.

The program will automatically detect all web browsers installed on your computer and will display them in the right-click menu.

Overall, useful for a certain group of people who would find it useful to change their default browser often. Enjoy! [via gHacks]
