Backup is an important process and I guess everybody will totally agree with that. Backup offers protection for files and folders in case any disaster happens, for example, a hard drive failure or data corruption. The problem with backup is that sometimes we are too busy with our work and tend to forget to backup our digital data every once in a while, which can lead to some serious consequences. Imagine the disaster if you lose your financial reports, thesis paper, or pillar blog drafts in such a critical time, with no other copies to be found.
To overcome this human problem of forgetfulness, we need some automated backup solution that we can set it once and let the software does the file backup process in the background. If you are currently looking for a good automatic file backup freeware, I recommend that you use Karen’s Replicator.

Karen’s Replicator can backup files, directories, even disk drives. The interface is simple and you can quickly start creating a backup (often referred as a “job”) by selecting the originating source folder and the destination folder that will store the backup. Backup can be done on-demand or automated using the schedule function. There is no limit to the number of backup jobs that you can setup and you can enable and disable any of them anytime.
Karen’s Replicator Features
- Backup files and folders to network drives – the best way to backup a file is to backup it inside other computers on the network.
- One time scheduled backup support.
- Repetitive, scheduled backup support – you can set your backup to occur every month, week, day, hour, even minute!

- “Copy Files Only if Changed or Added” – to speed up your backup process, you can set Karen’s Replicator to only copy modified files and directories to the backup destination.
- Copies open and hidden files while maintaining the hidden file attribute at the destination folder.
- Replication of deleted files and folders – set the Replicator to delete files inside the destination folder IF you have deleted it previously inside the source folder.
- Folder synchronization – to make sure both folders maintain the same contents, set up 2 backup jobs using both folders as the source and destination.
- Filters – to avoid the hassle of selecting a particular type of file to be backed up, use the “Edit Filters” function. For example, you can instruct Karen’s Replicator to copy only .doc files from folder A to folder B.
- Use the filter above as an exclude filter – for example; set a filter to backup all files from folder A to folder B, except for .doc files.
- Global file exclusions – files that have extensions mentioned in this list will never be backed-up. Useful to ignore temporary Windows file for full disk backup.

- Backup log and history – you can check out backup success, failures, warnings and more.

- Tags – use this function to create automatic folder names for multiple backup destinations. Useful to backup folder contents for each month of the year in specific folders.
- “Save Shortcuts to Jobs” – create a backup job shortcut on your desktop so you can do a manual backup by double clicking the shortcut anytime you feel backup is necessary.
- Option to launch Karen’s Replicator each time a user log on to Windows.
- Run past due jobs – if you miss a backup job, Karen’s Replicator will remind you and continue the process once it is launched again.
Karen’s Replicator has been around since 2002 so you can be sure that it offers reliable, automatic file backup solution for all your backup needs. As in any backup process, the first full backup process will take quite a long time to finish (depending on how big your backup files are), and it will be much faster for the next scheduled backup. Just make sure that you choose the “Copy Files Only if Changed or Added” option as mentioned above. If you don’t want to lose important files, don’t hesitate to make a head start today. Download Karen’s Replicator and have some peace of mind knowing that this program helps you to automate all your file backup process!
