Previously I’ve written about two web sites that you could use to add fun special effects to your photos, one called Dumpr and the other called Graphita. These online photo editing sites are great because you don’t have to download any complicated editing software and install it onto your computer! Another very cool one that I learned about recently is called flauntR.

As the name suggests, you’re supposed to upload your photos, add some wild effects to them, and then “flaunt” them to your friends and family or to the world via Flickr. Also, you can email the pictures, embed them onto your web site or blog, or save them online for storage purposes.

In order to start using flauntR, you have to sign up for an account, which is free. Once you’re logged in, you’ll get to enjoy the very easy to use Flash interface for uploading pictures and adding effects. You can either upload one picture at a time or connect to your Flickr account and grab pictures directly from there. I’m a big Picasa user, so I wish it connected to Picasa Web Albums also! We’ll just have to wait and see if that happens.

You’ll immediately notice that flauntR does not have very many photo “editing” tools, like image resizing or cropping. This is probably because flauntR is strictly for adding effects to your photos! They claim to have well over 1000 effects including Textures and canvases, surfaces and materials, distortions and lenses, light effects, frames, cutouts, and coloration.

From what I could see, a lot of the compositions were fairly tacky looking with the exception of a few. The lighting effects were definitely the best out of the set with effects like Window light, strip fade, flare light, netted, and spot light.

Most of the effects are not for any type of serious use, such as a logo or banner, etc. The effects are purely for fun purposes and sharing with others. One thing that I noticed that I didn’t like was the fact that you could not apply multiple effects at the same time. If you click on one effect and then click on another effect, the results of the first effect are removed, which is kind of annoying.

Another annoying thing I didn’t like was the fact that you can’t add your own text to the images. You can only choose from the many filters, overlays and effects, but cannot add text or choose the colors you want to apply.

Once you’re done with the effects, however, it’s very easy to share or download onto your computer. Click the Share button and choose from Flickr, Email, or HTML code.

Overall, flauntR has a large collection of effects and has a very easy to use and intuitive interface. It’s definitely great for anyone who wants to add a little bit of pizzazz to their pictures! Enjoy!

Update: I just realized that you can apply multiple effects to a picture in sequence! Apply the first effect and then click Save, then apply the second one and click Save, so on and so forth! Sorry!

    just dropped by to say that flauntR has not only added support for Picasa web albums, but also has a plug-in for the picasa desktop. Now you can also add text to images, and a lot more.

    I checked out flauntR. Really cool! Hundreds of frames that you can apply with a single click. Finally relieved that I can make my photos cool without having to learn the boring image editing stuff.
