Universcale – The entire universe scaled inside a Flash app!

WOW! This is the first flash app that I have seen in a REALLY long time that I think I could spend more than an hour on! It’s called Universcale from Nikon and it’s an amazing piece of work in that it takes everything in the universe and puts in into proportion, everything from the smallest particle that we know of to the entire universe as it was 13 billion years ago.

Universcale spans 40 magnatitufes of measurement ranging from the femtometer to the light year and as the app zooms in, the larger objects move off to the right and the smaller ones can be see within a small grid in the lower left corner. The app also has lots of pictures and information as you click on the various objects.

Once you’re in the app, just click anywhere to skip the introduction. The program zooms in very slowly, so if you want to speed it up, just keep clicking on the items as they appear in the lower left corner or click on the numbers that are going across the bottom (the magnatitudes) to quickly move to the next order of magnatitude.

Something fun to do when you’re bored and thinking about why you are here in this world! Now you can also see how tiny you are compared to everything too!
