Uber – Create your own unique website for free

Earlier I had written two posts on how to create your own website, including how to get a domain name/hosting and how to download free website templates, however doing it yourself in this manner still requires a little bit of technical knowledge and in the end is simply a pain for most non-web-designing people!
Luckily, there are some cool tools out there that you can use to create your own website with your own unique touch, rather than just using a plain template. Most web site or blog creation tools allow you to choose from pre-defined templates that you really can’t change. This includes tools like Blogger, Wordpress, WetPaint, etc.
Uber is a cool web service that is trying to change that by trying to bring back the freshness of web design! It basically includes a suite of Do-It-Yourself tools that allow you to create our own unique web designs. However, unlike web design tools like DreamWeaver or Frontpage, the DIY publishing tools from Uber are super easy to use! The best part about Uber is that it’s free!
Uber can be useful for many different types of sites, including blogs, personal or family pages, or band sites. Using Uber you can create customized pages in just a few minutes. The cool thing about the Uber design tools and what makes it so customizable is the fact that you can drag and drop items anywhere on the page.
Also, they have a nice collection of free components that you can add to your site, including things like a Flickr photo section, online poll, blogroll, and lots more! You can also make money off of your site by putting Google Ads on your site. It’s a breeze to upload videos and photos also that you want to share.
Whether you want your site to be seen by everyone or whether this is just for your friends, you can control access to your site using the Uber privacy options. The really amazing thing about Uber is the granularity at which you can set the privacy options. For example, you can control who can view each photo, video, or song that you upload. You can also do cool things like create a page that only one person can view, but leave the rest open to the public. Each component in Uber is controllable.
You can also use Uber as your personal digital photo album software! It has a great slideshow feature that takes your digital pictures and creates great looking slideshows from them. It features a thumbnail view, descriptions, and quick navigation. Also, you can upload your photos at full resolution so you don’t have to worry about them being shrinked down.
Uber is also a pretty nice blog editor! While writing a post, you can paste in videos from YouTube, flash content from another site, insert links, photos and more quickly and easily. Another great thing about Uber is that there is no limit on the amount of data you can upload! It’s unlimited file storage for free! That’s NICE! Apparently, they had a Pro account earlier, but they got rid of that now.
Overall, I have seen some pretty neat designs on Uber, way better than the standard blogs created by Blogger, etc. Definitely worth checking out if you want to create nice-looking, unique, and media-rich web site or blog for yourself, your friends, or your family quickly! Enjoy!

I wonder if Uber supports hosting of non-Uber domains, e.g. mysite.com instead of mysite.uber.com. I guess not. If they did, it would be a killer app. Also using Uber for photo storage is tempting (assuming that it stays in business for a few more years).
Yes the unlimited photo storage is a huge plus-I store all my pics there…just a sidenote about this article, there was never a pro account, it’s always just been the normal account which has always been free
uber will be sticking around for a while
This website is going to be fun.

Hi:
I looked at some sites and I’m very imprssed with Uber! Does anybody know if you can put a shopping cart linked to paypal on an Uber site. I did not see any mention of selling from the site in their “terms and conditions”.
