Trace your ancestry and families genealogy on a map for free

Keeping track of your family history or creating a family tree of your genealogy has become much easier thanks to technology in our digital age. Using MapYourAncestors, a mashup of Ancestry.com and Google Maps, you can create family tree maps, life chronology maps, traceable maps, family directory maps, and event chronology maps for free!

This free site was just released on August 2nd and lets you visually map out your ancestors, family, trips, etc by adding pictures and text to any location in the world. Once you create an account, you can start adding your family history information into the system by clicking “Create/Edit Your Family Tree”. Starting from the left, put in the first individual you want to start with, probably the youngest person in the family, and then add the parents, etc, etc.

You can also create life chronology maps, such as plotting everything from the location of your birth up to the current day. Each point is numbered and connected by red lines, so you can follow the “life” of the person on the map. Here’s an example of Bill Clinton’s life map:

You can create Traceable maps to create hiking, biking, or travel routes and share them with others. The program will give you the total distance in miles of your route and tell you how many calories you would burn based on the distance and your weight.

Finally, you can simply create an events map, where you just add the location, date, photo and description of any event to your map. Overall, a great way to track your genealogy, map out your life, or create personalized routes.
