Drop.io is a cool service that you can use for online file storage and also for sharing files with others quickly, meaning you don’t even have to register. Simply add your files to the “drop”, up to 100MB for free, and then set your options including how you want to share it and whether or not you want to password protect the files.
Each drop can contain multiple files and you can create as many as you like. The drops can exist for a set period of time ranging from 1 day to 1 year. Here’s a couple of uses for the service:
- privately sharing pictures & video with friends or family
- transferring files to yourself between computers (home & office)
- sharing documents with co-workers (too large to email)
- creating ‘instant’ collaboration space
- posting your resume privately
The best thing about Drop.io is that it requires no personal information such as an account or email address, etc. Plus, it’s a great way to quickly create a secure online storage area for multiple users to add and collaborate of on files. You can choose from three sharing options: View Only, View & Add Notes, and View, Add Notes & Files.
Also, when you setup a drop, you can get an email address with the same name as your drop, such as xxx@drop.io whereby you can add files or notes to your drop by simply sending an email with attachment to the drop.io address. The attached files will automatically be added to your drop box. Cool.
A very good service if you want to quickly share a file with a buddy or co-worker and don’t want to go through the hassle of creating an account, etc. Simple to use and looks like you’ll be able to buy more than 100MB at soe point in the future.
Any other online file sharing service you use that is just as good? Post a comment!
