If all you want is to share the clipboard as I did, you probably want to go for a lighter weight solution, for example I can recommend ClipboardMShareJ for sharing between Windows and Linux.

Between MaCs… there is no longer a need for any of this, unless you run an older version of OSX (i.e OS 10.4 or older)… since on OS 10.5 there is a “share screen” feature available built right on the Finder… as long as both computers are on a local network, all you have to do is click on the Share Screen tab on the Finder Window and Ta Ra N! You can CONTROL AND OBSERVE the other computer…. even if the other computer is older! However if you want to control another computer using an older Computer, you man need to buy Apple Remote Desktop… in that way you can install in on OS 10.4 or older and control any other computer.

First of all thanks for information regarding sharing PC’s. I am looking forward to install Synergy or Input Director and have a question.

I travel a lot and I take one of my laptops with me all the time. Which PC must be the MASTER so I would not have problem connecting or disconnecting when I get back to my office. Both of my PC’s are Laptops running XP. They both are on the Docking station.

Input Director is the way to go since there is no more development from Synergy.

Synergy doesnt work well with Windows 7…

Okay, I’ve been a user of Synergy for several months now. Recently, I got a new laptop PC, so I took a chance to try out Input Director (ID). It lasted only about 12 minutes on my computers.

At first ID didn’t want to connect to the slave (laptop), then the mouse movements weren’t as smooth as I’d expected and finally it stopped working when I connected the VPN (with has an integrated firewall). Maybe these problems can be fixed by fine-tuning the configuration, but I wasn’t in the mood for that ..

So I re-installed Synergy, which worked great again right from the start, even with the VPN running.

Synergy is great.
Works beautiful between Windows XP and Kubuntu or
between two Windows XP Machines.
