Search for recipies based on ingredients or what’s in your fridge

Unfortunately for me, my wife is in India and my mother is out of town for the weekend, leaving me alone in the house…so instead of just going out and getting some fatty unhealthy food, I decided to get a recipe from a friend and cook up some food French style baby!

I have no idea what the name of the dish is, all I know is that I used butter, flour, vegetables, milk, cheese, salt and pepper. And it tasted pretty damn good considering that’s the first dish I’ve ever tried my hand at (I don’t count Ramen noodles and grill cheese!)! Now you’re wondering whether I have lost my mind since this is supposed to be a computer blog, not a self help cooking blog!

Well, there’s where CookingByNumbers.com comes into play. It’s a pretty interesting web site where you can pick what ingredients you have in your fridge and it’ll come up with recipes that match whatever you have! That’s great for a guy who can’t cook and doesn’t know how the heck to mix anything!

Once you’re at the main site, click on the tomatoes to get started. Check off the items and you’ll get your recipes back ranked by the closet match to not so close!

In doing some research, this site seems to be a little out of date and does not have as many recipes as some other sites. Check out Allrecipes.com, which has not only has a lot more recipes, but it also lets you choose what ingredients you do not want! A nice way to narrow down the possible list of recipes.

You can also try out RecipeLand.com, which is similar to Allrecipes, but doesn’t have the exclude feature!

Happy cooking!
