Save money on your purchases using the web

There’s a nice post over at The Simple Dollar, which talks about how to save money on the web by using some cool web sites. Maybe you’ve heard of these sites, but maybe not, so here they go!

1. Remember the Milk – I just wrote a post about 20 minutes back about a web site that reminds you to do certain tasks by sending text messages to your phone when you want! Well this site works similarly, but has some other cool features. So if you’re in the need to buy 50 items, then this might just be the thing for you.

What’s really nice about this site is that you simply add your tasks into the system and you can have an alert sent to anywhere including your cell phone, email, IM, Skype, etc. And if you have a phone that lets your browse the Internet, you can fire up the mobile version on the web site and view your tasks or grocery list right on your cell phone!

2. Coupons.com – Once you have a list of items you would like to buy, simply go here and scroll through all the coupon offers to see if anything listed is on your buy list. You can even enter in your zip code and get coupons for your area if they are available. A few minutes spent on this site and you might be able to save yourself a couple of bucks!

3. FatWallet.com - This web site is basically a compilation of all the “sales” events and discounts being given from just about any company you can think of including Verizon, Dell, iTunes, Aeropostale, Target, etc. I just browsed through the computer section and found a deal for a 6GB USB 2.0 pocket external hard drive for only $38.95 with shipping! Damnit! I bought my 1GB USB stick from OfficeMax for $40! Definitely check out this site for some good deals.

4. PaperBackSwap – PaperBackSwap is a new community book sharing site where you can basically get access to millions of books by simply offering up your own books and shipping them to someone else via media mail (which is cheap). Someone else ships you their book via media mail and you both get the books you want for $1.50! Way better than buying the book at Amazon or Barnes and Noble!

You can also check out sites like NexTag.com and Shopping.com, but I have found that Google’s Froogle search usually finds a cheaper price than these sites! Something is a little too commerical about these web sites to think you are getting the best deal out there.
