Receive Notifications When Web Sites Update
Posted on August 27, 2010 at 5:36 am
Many Web sites these days use RSS compatible formats so interested users are made aware of updates almost immediately. However, many Web sites do not. A service called ChangeDetection.com can monitor any Web site for changes—and send an email to interested users when updates are made.
ChangeDetection.com’s interface is completely simple to use. Copy the Web site URL you want to monitor for updates.
Navigate to ChangeDetection.com. Under the Monitor a Page heading, paste the URL in the Page Address textbox.
Enter your email address in the Send Alert To: textbox and click next.
The next page allows you to choose how often you would like to receive alerts (daily, weekly, monthly) and whether you would prefer to only receive notifications when the Web site makes a sizable change. You also have the option to set a keyword alert so you only receive notifications about topics that interest you. Click Create once you have made your choices.
You are then sent an email confirmation code, which you must paste on the next page. After choosing a password, click Submit.
From now on, you should receive an alert when the Web site you are monitoring makes a change. There is no reason to visit the site everyday hoping for new content—you will know as soon as new content is posted, so long as you check your email on a regular basis.
