Locate WiFi hotspots anywhere in the US

If you have not been able to find a decent WiFi hotspot finder web site because of the attempts to install spyware onto your computer, then you’re not alone! It seems that even though this idea has been around for a while, no one player has really come out as the leader.
But thanks to the Google Code effort, which is basically a collection of coding projects that are either internal, by outside professionals, or by Google’s Summer of Code project, we keep getting really cool software (like the package tracking via Google Maps) and the WiFi locator.
The web site, created by Andre Lewis and called Hotspotr, is still in beta, but has a compiled list of about 4033 cafes in 1200 cities. It was started in the West, so some of the eastern cities such as New York, etc are still kinda sparse. Hotspotr relies on users to update it’s list, so right now it contains mostly coffee shops and the sort. It looks promising and I like it’s ease of use, simply type in your zip code and you have your red tacks anywhere there is a hot spot!
Another site that also tries to provide this service is Wi-FiHotSpotList.com.
