Wetpaint – Create your own Wiki

Posted on September 30, 2008 at 5:12 am

Creating a website for your business, personal use, or just for fun is one of the best ways of getting your special moments on the Internet. As long as you don’t mind using a sub domain, then you won’t have to pay anything to leave your personal mark on the web. I’ve preivously written about several sites where you can create your own website, make your own website, and build your own website

Wikis have become some of the most popular websites. Getting others involved in the maintenance, creation process, and information sharing is an important component of having a wiki. Instead of being the only one involved in the upkeep of a wiki, you can share the responsibility with virtually anyone and keep current information on it.

Wetpaint is a free online wiki that lets everyone create some interesting web content. The interface is completely straightforward and easy to use. Within a few short minutes, you’ll have a fully functional wiki for everyone to view. Compared to other wikis, it’s one of the simplest to get started with. You’ll be able to upload images, do some editing, add pages and even lock them when necessary.

To get started in your building process, create a special name for your website with a memorable URL. Each user will have the .wetpaint.com attached to the URL, but you can pay a premium fee for a regular domain. On Wetpaint’s homepage, view a few existing wikis to get an idea of how to create your own. After entering the initial details to begin your wiki building process, you’ll also need to give a brief description about your website and select a category for it.

Wetpaint allows you the choice of sharing your wiki with the world or keeping it private. Private websites can give access to others by invitation only. This would prove to be a good idea for anyone wanting to create a wiki to showcase your work experience, samples, and contact information. Freelance writers, artists, and musicians can benefit from this tremendously. Let prospective employers see what you’re capable of and some of your best work.

The “Easy Editing” feature of Wetpaint is very helpful when creating your personalized wiki. It offers you a simple way to add text, multimedia, or other components to your wiki. Viewers can participate in a discussion forum, look at photos, and discover what’s new.

Wetpaint allows members to make a totally interactive website with up to date content. If you’ve ever wanted to build a wiki and thought that it was too difficult, then consider using Wetpaint. The interface is definitely user-friendly with some great features.
