Find restaurants, coffee shops, etc between two addresses using MeetWays

Ever been in a situation where you are talking to a client or friend who lives completely across town about going out to eat or meeting up to study together? Well if you live in a big city, you probably only know what kind of restaurants or coffee shops are near your area and not anywhere else.

So what happens most of the time is that you or your friend ends up having to drive all the way across town to meet up, which wastes a lot of time! If you meet up in the middle somewhere, then both parties spend the same amount of time traveling.

MeetWays is a cool web service that was created so people could find various points of interest between any two addresses. Basically, you enter both addresses, the type of restaurant you are looking for, and you’ll get a list of restaurants that are exactly at the halfway point!

Here is what I get after entering Cajun Food into the point of interest. Note that you can also type in bank, shopping, auto, etc depending on what you are looking for.

A Google Maps box shows up with your two addresses and a button for the halfway point also. The small yellow buttons are the points of interest that MeetWays found closest to the halfway point.

The only thing I don’t like right now is that the results are limited to only 4 plus a few Google ads. I know there are more restaurants in that area, so I’m not sure why the service does not let you view more results. I tried with other queries and got the same limit of 4.

You can also click on “Hungry” if you are searching for food specifically and choose the type of food you are looking for, i.e. American, Chinese, Italian, Mexican, etc.

Overall, it’s a great tool for finding restaurants, coffee shops, parks, movie theatres, hotels, etc in a halfway location. I hope they eventually allow you to see more than four results, which is only limiting factor to the program at this point.

They also try to market it as a tool for businesses so that you can meet create conferences with clients or employees at a central location and thereby reduce your traveling and mileage costs. Check it out!

Cool little site. It worked great for me in Chicago (meeting a friend from Ann Arbor). I also just downloaded their new iPhone app and love that as well. Thanks for turning me on to this.
