Trulia is a free real estate search engine that you can use to find homes for sale, recently sold properties, and trends in home prices for your area. Trulia lets you easily find price trends in the area you may want to move to and helps you determine what you can sell your hour for based on other recently sold properties in your area. You can see trends for your county, city, zip code, or neighborhood.

To get started, simply enter your city and zip code in the search box to find homes that are listed for sale. You can customize the search by entering a price range, the number of bedroom, bathrooms, or square footage.

Now the fun starts! Trulia will generate a map with all of the current homes that are on sale, all of the recently sold properties that it has in it’s records, and even property records! You can refine your search using the smart filters on the left by price, property type, neighborhood, etc. Click on any of the bubbles in the map to see a picture of the house with the current selling or sold price.

I was very impressed with the accuracy of Trulia’s data. For my hometown of New Orleans, it had just about every house that is currently on sale and I learned the selling prices of a lot of homes that I would not have known otherwise. Click on the address of any listing to get even more information and useful tools, such as the price of the current home relative to other similar homes.

But that’s not even the coolest feature of this web site! Go ahead and click on Real Estate Guides across the top to look at “Heat Maps“, a cool new way to see data visually and understand trends better. Heat maps allow you to visually compare prices and popularity of homes by state, city, and neighborhood.

Each neighborhood gets a ranking and you can sort by avg listing price, avg sales price, price per sqft, and popularity. Another cool feature of the site is Trulia Voices, a place where you can ask questions or post answers with other local residents in your area. Want to know the most popular school to send you kids or the cheapest place to find gas? Just ask!

Trulia is a great tool for those looking to move and who like lots of data to analyze! It’s also a great way for real estate agents to list their homes and get sales! Enjoy!
