Definr – Super fast ad-free online dictionary and thesaurus

Where do most people, including myself, go when they have to look up a word that they don’t know? Probably Dictionary.com or it’s sister site Thesaurus.com, which gives probably the most in-depth definitions and word associations out there! Both of these sites are great free online dictionaries, but they have become so popular that you’re constantly being bombarded with ads. And not just simple text ads!
Whenever I look up a word from Dictionary.com, my computer fans actually kick on because my processor is spending time loading all of the flashing ads and pop-ups! And it looks like some other people also thought this was annoying and decided to create a free online dictionary that is completely ad-free and very good also!
Definr is the new kid on the block when it comes to online dictionaries, but it’s probably the one the most people are talking about also. It’s very reminiscent of the Google search page, with a logo, a search box, and one or two links on the page! I love it!
When performing a search, you get not only the definition of the word blazingly fast, you also get a list of synonyms for the word.
But that’s not even the best part of Definr! The great thing is that there is now a Firefox extension that will add a search box to your Firefox toolbar.
On top of that, there are 3 more ways you can quickly perform searches on Definr. Once you install the Firefox extension, you can specify a keyword for the search box and then simply type “d searchword” into the address bar! You can also type “definr/searchword” into the Firefox address bar without having to install the extension. Finally, you can drag a bookmarklet to your Firefox toolbar and perform searches by clicking the button.
Overall, a great free online dictionary that may not be as in-depth as Dictionary.com, but frankly gives what I need and gives it fast! Enjoy!

I found a website faster than definr. Try to use http://www.DefineItFast.com and you compare it. I have been using this online dictionary for weeks now because their toolbar is great for my children.
Hello! As always, thanks for the excellent information. I just tried Defnr, using the bookmarklet you provide in this page… As a test I precisely entered the word “bookmarklet”… And guess what. No matches for it in Defnr… which is using one as one of the means to consult it…
And there’s no contact whatsoever. A totally closed and enclosed site. It is indeed very fast and practical, but very poor in definitions: my 2nd search was “corny” and it states just one acception, and then not the commonest. Then, let us seek “acception” in Defnr… and there’s no “acception” entry either… This fixes my relation with Defnr: nil.
One way to surmount some the crappiness (ahem, another term that is not in Defnr, but it is found in Dictionary.com) into which Ask has sunken Dictionary.com, as it does with everything it absorbs, is to use Firefox with one of the flash-killers add on’s. It even comes with a simple one included in Toolbar buttons.
