Create timelines for free online using TimeRime

Creating historical timelines is a great way to explain or teach someone about the history of a particular idea, concept, or object. Unfortunately, there simply is not that much software out there to quickly create professional looking timelines.

And usually, if someone is going to create a timeline, it’s probably a one-time project for school or work and so installing an application on your desktop is kind of overkill. That’s why I love the Internet because there everything can now be done online too!

TimeRime is a free service that lets you create cool-looking flash-based timelines online! It’s a timeline maker! It seems to be a pretty popular service already because I found many very useful and in-dept timelines about everything from John McCain to the birds nest stadium create for the Beijing Olympics.

However, the coolest thing about TimeRime is the fact that you can create very interactive and multimedia rich timelines. Each timeline can include text, images, music, YouTube videos, and more! So instead of creating a simple and boring timeline with just text and dates, you can create full-fledged timeline presentation to engage viewers.

The other cool thing is that you can search TimeRime for other publicly shared timelines and learn about various subjects. For example, here is a timeline about AIDS:

Clicking on a particular event in the timeline will show a new tab below with more detailed information that can include images, videos, etc.

Once you create your timeline, you can easily share it with others via email or embed it on your website or blog. Since it is flash-based, they have some cool controls to navigate the timeline, such as zooming in and out and extending the size up or down.

To create your own timeline, you have to create an account and then click on MyTimeRime at the bottom. It’s basically four steps, General info, Items, Periods, and some optional info. It’s very easy to use and no technical knowledge is needed.

So if you know the history of some topic very well, consider creating your own timeline and sharing it with others! You can create a lot of other things online like diagrams and flowcharts, create interactive presentations, create an animated avatar, create a photo mosaic, or even create your own Wiki! Enjoy!

All these free sources are great and all, but look at AOL’s CircaVie: they suddenly closed it and I wouldn’t have known anything about it, hadn’t I stumbled on a blog in a totally unrelated search.
So, the question is, how can you trust that the time you invested in creating the timeline won’t be just flushed down the toilet when the new start-up closes its business?

I used CircaVie as well now i am switched to TimeRime.
I guess that website won’t shut down because they have a lot more timelines than CircaVie. *Keep fingers crossed*. I use the website for my school projects. Hopefully they wil translate the site in Spanish one day.

No, it isn’t FREE! I input 100 items over a period of 8 hours of sweaty labour in a Montreal heat wave, only to be STOPPED at #100 with a demand for 30+ Euros in payment as the condition to add more items. FLUSHED! I am now looking for another place to put my timeline, another 8 hours of my slave labour required to transfer it OUT.

The ideal would be an online free timeline maker allowing downloading & printing when done, and embeddable as well.
