Conveniently bookmark sites to read later with LaterLoop
Posted on May 30, 2008 at 5:16 am
Have you ever bookmarked a site with your browser so you can read it later, when you are free? Unfortunately, most of us will forget about them because we simply do not have the time to go back and look at old stuff.
If you continue this bookmarking habit without actually reading the real content, you will have a huge, wasted collection of nice things to read. One way to reduce this huge backlog is to use a smart bookmarking tool like LaterLoop. It allows you to save and access your website bookmarks anywhere, so you can read them using convenient gadgets like your iPhone or Blackberry.
LaterLoop is a simple web service that allows you to save and bookmark any website links so you can return to read it later. Unlike your local Mozilla Firefox/IE bookmarks that stores everything on your local computer, all your LaterLoop bookmarks will be saved online.
Therefore, you can access the bookmarks from any Internet connected computer or web enabled hand phones. FYI, LaterLoop is optimized for Apple’s iPhone but other type of phone should never have a problem to view LaterLoop bookmarked pages too.
How to Use LaterLoop
To begin using LaterLoop, you need to sign-up for the service first. Alternatively, you can use a Google Account to login securely to LaterLoop; which is built based on the Google App Engine. Next, you need to download and install LaterLoop’s Firefox extension.
Another way to bookmark a webpage with LaterLoop is to drag and drop LaterLoop’s bookmarklet to your Firefox’s bookmark toolbar. You need to restart Firefox to activate LaterLoop’s add-on. Once you are done, you can see LaterLoop’s bookmarking icon on bottom right of Firefox’s status bar.
Make sure that you have login to LaterLoop’s website. To bookmark a webpage, all you need to do is to click on the LaterLoop icon or right click on it and select “Save for Later on LaterLoop“. As simple as pie.

If you want to view and read all the websites that you have bookmarked, point your browser or iPhone to http://laterloop.com. Other mobile phone users should use an optimized mobile version of LaterLoop page; http://m.laterloop.com.

LaterLoop Features
-
Read an item with an optional text-only mode for speedier website access.
-
Delete, star and archive bookmark items with ease.

-

- Integrates nicely with the popular Scrapbook Firefox add-on.
If you are an Internet Explorer fan, you can also use LaterLoop by using this extension for IE. With LaterLoop, you can now access and clear your bookmarked sites anywhere, anytime with your hand phone. Try it today!

I have been using google bookmarks…looks like it is worth a try..thanks for sharing
Has any Del.icio.us or StumbleUpon user tried this? Does it score better over the two?
I’ve been using the Read It Later Extension (http://www.ideashower.com/ideas/active/read-it-later/) it creates a folder in the bookmarks stores the stuff in there, but also has 2 toolbar icons, one to mark it for later and the reading list. Once you have read the article (ie gone to the page) it removes the bookmark from the list.
And another unrelated question, I’ve been seeing you have Page Rank, and Alexa in the status bar, I looked through the blog real quick and didn’t see a mention of it. Is it an addon or a custom thing? I’ve been looking for something of that nature for a while now
Abhishek - LaterLoop has a few more features than Google bookmarks, so it might be worth trying.
Riyaz - Both del.icio.us and StumbleUpon are very good bookmarking sites, but LaterLoop has the advantage of tracking whether you’ve already opened a site, the ability to download all of your links, etc.
BCK - Read It Later also sounds pretty good, might give that a try. And I’m not sure what you mean by page rank and Alexa in the status bar, that is probably something specific to your Firefox browser. I am guessing there is an addon that puts that information there for you…does it do that for all sites?
BCK - That’s a totally different plugin for Firefox. It is called SearchStatus. It tracks Alexa, PageRank and Compete Rank for the current page in your browser.
