Compare Travel Costs Between Driving, Flying or Riding the Bus

Traveling by air has become a major hassle. We must arrive at the airport two hours before our flight is scheduled to depart, unpack and repack our computers for security, take off and put on our shoes for security, and then hope we are not selected for a more invasive random search.
So, our hour and a half flight to paradise now takes more like four hours… so is it worth the extra cost over driving?
GetSetApp.com serves to compare the costs of three modes of transportation: airplane, car or bus. The cheapest route is sometimes surprising.
To start, select a major city from the drop down menu.
Next, select a destination city from the second list. Click Go when finished.
A chart appears telling the costs of each mode of transportation. For a trip from Jacksonville, FL to Washington, DC, the cheapest mode of transportation is driving a car. Oddly enough, it costs as much to take the bus from Jacksonville to DC as it does to fly, so in this case, the airplane might be a good choice.
However, on a shorter trip from Tampa, FL to Ft. Lauderdale, FL, the cost of taking the bus is about 40% cheaper than taking an airplane. The cost of driving is still less than half of the bus.
GetSetApp.com does have a few flaws. First, the comparisons are for round-trips only, so anyone just wanting to travel one-way will not receive a fair cost estimate here. Also, the car cost estimation is based on 30 miles per gallon. While we drive a small car that does generally make this kind of gas mileage, most people do not.
Obviously, a few customization options would make this site a great tool for estimating travel costs, especially with the built-in links to the cheapest flights found. Hopefully, as the site grows, so will the options.
