Amazon Window Shop - Find best-seller books, movies, music, and games

Posted on November 5, 2008 at 5:24 am

If you shop at Amazon a lot (I do), then you will be happy to know that they recently created a new website so that you can quickly browse the bestsellers in multiple categories like Music, Movies, TV Shows, Books, and and Video Games.

It’s called Amazon Window Shop and it’s way cooler browsing for stuff here than it is on Amazon. At least for me it is because half the time I go to Amazon, I know what I want, but the other half I usually just want to see what are the most popular books or hottest music titles right now.

The coolest thing is the interface, which is a virtual board that you can browse using your keyboard or mouse. I prefer the arrow keys on my keyboard to quickly move up and down. You can also use the spacebar to zoom in and out.

When you zoom in on a particular item, you will get more detailed information such as a video trailer if it’s a movie, a short clip if it’s a music video, or a text review if it’s a book.

The content is sorted by date, so the content farthest to the left is the newest. You can also see the date under each category. The categories are kind of mixed around and you’ll see categories for bestsellers, but also Editor’s Picks and Best-Selling of All Time.

Overall, it’s a cool way to visually browse the best selling content at Amazon.com. Note that you can also download and install the Cooliris plugin, which works with several categories on Amazon like Electronics, Home & Garden, etc and allows you to visually browse the content in 3D. Enjoy!
