Digital photographs straight from the camera are quite boring unless you add some funny special effects to them like text, captions, doodles or art work. Entrepreneurs have recognized this need and there are now many free web sites where you can transform a picture into something interesting and unique using effects.

One site that I just learned about is called Graphita, which I really like a lot. It’s simple to use and completely free. Once you’ve created your own customized picture, you can share it easily with friend and family via email or you can get it made into a T-Shirt, mug, bag, and much more.

To get started creating your own digital photo effects, click Start and Browse to upload a new picture. If you simply want to play around with the software, choose a picture from the gallery.

Click Continue and a pop-up window will appear that loads up the Live Stuido design software. The software is similar to Photoshop in the sense that is has brushes which can be anything from a regular paint brush to fish or hearts. This is all under the Doodle tab. Simply select a brush and click on the image to paint it.

Under the Captions tab, you can enter plain text or all sorts of other text type items, such as signs, post-it notes, and call-outs. You can also specify the font type, font size and transparency of the captions. In order to use a caption, click and drag the object onto the picture.

Lastly, you can also place funny objects onto a picture, such as devil horns, birthday hats, and fake eye glasses.

Once you’re finished, click Save and either create a new account or login to store your picture. You’ll be brought to your My Pictures section where you can share the picture onto all of the major photo sharing sites including Flickr, Picasa, FaceBook, My Space, SnapFish, ShutterFly, WebShots, and Bebo. You can also choose to email the file directly to multiple people.

Overall, it’s a very nice program to draw on pictures or to add some simple text, graphics, or objects to a picture. Have fun!
