6 ways to create digital photo books from your photo albums

Do you have lots of photos? One of the great things that you can do with all of your photos is turn them into custom photo books! Personally, I’m a photo freak and have well over 20,000 photos stored on my computer. Recently, I created my own photo book using desktop software and presented to my wife as a wedding gift. It was definitely very unique, very personalized, and the quality was superb.

However, there are a couple of options and routes that you can take to create your own photobook. Some allow you to create the books online and others require you to download their own custom software. Personally, I find the software download to be better because you can work on your book while offline at any time. Also, you don’t have to upload all of your pictures.

Here’s a list of ways you can go about turning your digital photos into custom coffee table photo books or wedding photo books, etc.

blurb Blurb BookSmart is the software I used to create my first photo book and I was very happy with it. The software is very easy to use and has lots of features and options. Also, the quality was professional and service great!

lulu Lulu is one of the more popular sites for publishing your own custom books. Lulu also let’s you sell your books to a large marketplace of users. Blurb does also, but Lulu has buyers from 80 countries. Lulu also has more options such as comic books, dissertations, cookbooks, etc.

tabblo Tabblo is a web site created by HP that let’s you create simple photo books or photo posters. I like the picture poster aspect of Tabblo, otherwise it’s options are quite limited, i.e. only two book sizes!

mypublisher Another very simple to use online-based photo book publisher. They have over 200 page layouts and 8 book styles to choose from. Prices are also pretty competitive.

photoworks Photoworks is nice because you can convert you pictures into not only photo books, but also calendars, cards, or other photo gifts. You can also share your pictures with others for free.

memorymixer MemoryMixer is more on the side of digital scrapbooking, but can also be used to create photo books. I like this site because it mixes scrapbooking with publishing, so you can create a really custom and unique photo book.

These are some of the most popular sites for publishing photo books that I know of, if you have any others you would like to share, post a comment! Enjoy!

Great writeup. There is another option, although it is more limited, and that’s publishing through apple via Aperture or iPhoto.

I did an apple book a few years ago and the quality wasn’t nearly as good as what blurb produced, however I would hope that apple has upgraded their printing technology in the past 4 years.

I have pictures and details on the blurb book, including mistakes, here:

Overall blurb has been an excellent product for the price, but I’ll have to look into some of the others you listed above.

    Thanks
