I have tried the steps, but it is still not working.

After I restart the PC, the Internet connection can work (but very slowly). After 5 minutes, the internet connection is down.

Please give me advice.

Isn’t it ashamed that one has to do tricks to connect to the internet. I have an XP and Window 7 running on same router.
XP never looses or fails to obtain IP address from Router.
Windows 7 looses and takes 15 minutes to obtain new IP address. IN meantime, it searches, tries repairs, tries updating IP, etc, but cannot do so until 15 minutes has passed.

This should not be.

I tried both ways and after typing netsh winsock reset catalog it says “The requested operation requires elevation.

I do not know what to do next. Anyone mind helping?

I got infected with internet security 2010, Jan 2010. Along with adding the malware it disabled my internet connection. After cleaning with malwarebytes anti malware,still could not connect to internet. But with this solution to reset winsockets, connection is now back up. thanks much.

Ahhh wonderful! I was having all kinds of network problems before resetting Winsock. I kept getting disconnected and my IP address would not renew! Thanks!

Thanks mate, my LAN got wiped out after “Internet Security 2010″ worm infection, zapped the infection with Combofix.exe and you did the rest, thanks
