After doing a scan, how do you know what to toss and what to keep? I scanned it and it said windows was taking 38% of my space up and users being second with 37%. Is there a way to list the files and have some help with cleaning it up?

Sandra, Page file and Hiber.sys are SYSTEM FILES!!!

DO NOT DELETE THESE

Page file - The search index for your computer, keeps a record of file location and contents (You can turn this off if you want, but it will result in Snail speed searches on your PC)

Hiber.sys - Do you ever hibernate your computer?
Ever wonder how it works?
^
Your PC cannot use RAM, or temporary memory to save it, because RAM clears every time your PC shuts down, so Windows saves everything you are doing in this file.

If you do not use hibernate, Turn it off.
(Google search "Turn off hibernation")

Thank you for this. I am running out of disk space on my hard drive and used TreeSize to figure out what it was. However, I don't understand how to remove these files.

Something called Page File and hiber.sys. These are taking up a couple of GBs. Help.

I agree with this article, TreeSize is the best program for finding out where all your disk space is being used up. It's not fancy, but it really is easy to use and it can be run from a portable USB stick!

This is by far the most efficient tool to locate your space wasters (the tool's age is a proof of its usefulness in this particular case...):

I use another program which has nicer charts and does everything else I need, and is slightly cheaper to boot:

ketara.ca/folder-sizes-disk-space.html

Another way of cleaning your computer from junk is to use a duplicate file finder like Clone Tools.

Hi Jeff,

Do you have Easy CD Creator installed on your computer? If so, you may have to uninstall it and get the latest version. Some of the older versions cause this problem. If that doesn't work, try downloading the latest driver for your CD/DVD ROM device from the computer manufacturer's web site.

Thanks!
