How to Share Photos at a Private, Secure and Temporary Location

Posted on May 19, 2008 at 5:11 am

There are a lot of photo sharing sites out there that let you share your public and private photos, but most of them are not very secure. Sometimes, you will be surprised to find out how easy it is to find privately uploaded photos with a search engine like Google.

Therefore, to share your photos among friends and families in a private and secure location, you can take advantage of the flexibility of Drop.io - a drop dead easy, simple file exchange service provider.

Why Drop.io?

In Drop.io, each share is called a drop - a chunk of space to store and share anything privately. There are a few reasons on why you should use Drop.io to share your private photos:

  • It is free to use - you can upload up to 100MB of photos for each drop. If you want more, you need to subscribe to the service at an affordable fee.
  • It is super easy to use - it takes a minimum of two clicks to get started.
  • No registration and email needed before you can start using it.
  • Drop.io is private - you can enter a password to secure your photo collection and only let close friends know the password.
  • Drop.io shares are not searchable via a search engine.
  • It can be temporary - you can set a time to instruct Drop.io to delete your photos - a day, a month, a year etc.
  • Collaboration support - viewers can optionally be set to be able to add more photos, comments, notes, etc.
  • Photos can be added to Drop.io shares from multiple input sources - the web, email, hand phones, widgets, fax and voice mail. Great!
  • Easy photo viewing - Drop.io use the thumbnails and slideshows to display your photos, just like any other excellent photo sharing sites.

6- Once the upload process has been completed, I recommend that you choose to set an Admin password so you can change your drop options if the need arise.

If anyone wants to view your photos, all they need is to enter a password at a specific drop address - for example: http://drop.io/mysecretpics , as I’ve created above. They can view your photos using three different views - blog, media or interactive. They can also download your files in bulk using the “Create zip files” function.

If you have created an administrator password, you can access and change your photo sharing options using the exact same address. Some unique things that you can do as administrator (not available from the default Drop.io view):

  • Change the logo of your photo share.
  • Change your drop / share address.
  • Destroy your photos immediately.
  • Change a drop expiration date.
  • Change permissions of photo viewers - allow users to add notes, add more photos to your drop etc.

There you go, an easy to use service for those who want to create and share photos for certain duration of time, in a secure and private way. You don’t have to spend a lot of time to create a simple photo gallery where you can add extra photos from anywhere, anytime, considering the input tools that Drop.io supports. Try it today!
