Are you looking for a free ebook reader for your Palm handheld device, Smartphone, Pocket PC, or Symbian phone? Ebook readers that can handle all of the different ebook formats like TXT, HTML, PDB, UMD, etc can be hard to find on occasion, especially ones that work with your specific phone!
Luckily if you phone is running Java or if it is able to run Java applications, then you can check out a free program from a Chinese company (yes there is an English version) that allows you to read all of your favorite ebooks right on your cell phone or mobile device!
AnyView has some really nice features that make it very suitable for ebook reading on a mobile device. If you just clicked the link, you’re probably like “How the hell am I going to find the download link for the English version when the site is in Chinese!”. Well you can click here to download the English version 3.1.16.
Here are some of the major features for the AnyView mobile ebook reading software:
- It supports the following file formats: TXT, HTML, PDB and UMD comic format as well as display GIF, JPEG and PNG file formats.
- It can handle UTF-8, GB2312 and Unicode - this means it can display Spanish and other language texts.
- Fully touch screen enabled (for those who are blessed with touch screen phones like the iPhone!) - Very cool feature.
- Extremely fast and responsive when flipping through pages
- It can open the files directly on the phone with no need to add text file into jar file (as has to be done with most other ebook readers)
- It has a great page turning capability - you use the 2/8 keys for page scroll and 4/6 keys for line scroll. You can also turn on automatic scrolling if desired.
- Has nice features like search, jump to and bookmark features - everything you would expect and would need of an ebook reader.
- It supports reading directly from ZIP files - so you can store more ebooks on your phone!
- Provides flexible customization capabilities with more than 50 user-customizable settings such as font size, colors, screen layout, etc. You can save all of the preferences in a Settings files and you can set up multiple settings files for use with different document formats.
You can install AnyView onto your phone following a few simple steps:
- Download the rar file containing the latest version of Anyview and uncompress (unrar) it on your local PC
- Copy the fairy.jar file to the memory card that’s in your phone
- Click on the fairy.jar file to install the application. The application MUST BE installed on your memory card not the phone - otherwise it will not work correctly.
You can read the rest of the instructions for installing the application onto your phone here. It gives step by step instructions that are pretty easy to follow.
You can also check out another service called BookInMyPhone that allows you to download and read lots of ebooks for free on your cell phone or mobile phone.
If you’re looking for a portable ebook reader that is a separate unit, you can read my post on the Amazon Kindle, a very popular ebook reader.
Lastly, you can check out a post I had written about earlier on a service called FeedBooks that lets you create your own ebooks for viewing on mobile devices and allows you to create ebooks from feeds that you can view on a mobile device! Enjoy!

Check out wattpad.com as well, the software is easy to use and there are lots of books to choose from.
http://www.booksinmyphone.com gives away books prepackaged to run in regular cell phones. Very simple you don’t need to find and package texts yourself, and their included reader is very nice. If you have an internet connection on your phone you can browse for books and install directly, or download and install via a PC / memory card.

Does anybody know how to make use of Anyview on my Nokia 6110 Navigator. It’s system is Symbian and not Java. So I can’t find the right registry.txt file. Thanks, Douwe
