I am using Windows XP. I want to go to My Documents, where I have the screen set to "list" for all the titles of my documents. I have many hundreds collected over the years and want to remove some unneeded ones, but don't want to go through screen by screen doing print screen saves to acquire the full list of document names.

I opened My Documents and went to the Edit button on the task bar. Chose Select all. Copied and opened a Word document to Paste the list into. Got a message - not enough memory. I have a huge computer. Found that odd. Not enough memory (Where?)

Thanks,
Kate

I want to print all the installed programs on my hard drive under "Program Files" before the drive dies. Maybe the first 1st sub-directory too. Using the command line is too clumsy to choose how far down to go. If I don't want any .exe or .dll files, only folders, this program looks like an elegant solution. Quick/dirty is nice, elegant is nicer.

With wList you can list files without the header. You can change the header also, try it:

http://www.sharktime.com/us_wList.html

In menu go: View -> Select List Style (Ctrl+T)
Header options are just at upper right corner of list style window.

You can use it for free for 30 days. Try and enjoy it.

Regards,

I usually use Cygwin on my PC to accomplish this:

ls -la > files.txt

But I was dealing with a directory on a compact flash card that had approximately 28,000 small files (11kB a piece). Cygwin failed me in this task. The ls command would work, but as soon as I added any options, it would just lock up. I assume it couldn't handle the large amount of files.

That's when I found this tool, but apparently it couldn't handle the large amount of files either. Attempted to run it, but it locked up the same as Cygwin. Seems like a great tool, but it isn't capable of this task any more than a simple DOS command (dir > files.txt) or bash command (shown above).

Thanks anyway, though

Installed "Karens Directory Printer" and it was very useful. However, is there a way to remove or change the header. Right now it prints with confidential information (i.e. computer ID, serial number, etc.) that I would like to remove since these lists will be used and accessed by outside individuals. Thank you!

dir > filename.txt gives the same results.. now if it would print the comments and subject etc... then it would have a leg up

Wow, this is exactly what I've been looking for. The DOS way also works, but this has so many more options. Thanks. This will save me so much time printing all the files names in a directory!

In addition to Gururaj's suggestion, try:

e:> dir /S > listing.log

for a recursive directory listing.
