Organize your desktop windows using WinTabber

I love using Firefox because it was the first Internet browser to support multiple tabs in the same window! That in itself was a great feature and one that IE soon copied because of it’s popularity. However, multiple tabs in one window works only for Firefox and IE, but what if you could create tabs for all of your Windows applications!?
Imagine being able to switch between different programs in a tabbed “browser” type interface. That means you could have one item in your taskbar that has several applications running inside of it, including Firefox, IE, Adobe, or anything else you want!
WinTabber is a free program that allows you to do just this! It’s a great way to organize and de-clutter your desktop if you usually have lots of windows open. It will not only clear up your desktop, but also clear up a lot of space on your taskbar.
Ok, imagine your desktop looked like this (which mine does often):
And now see what it looks like after you put all of them into a tabbed interface using WinTabber:
Now all of your programs are tabbed into one nice little window. Just click on a tab to access that program! The cool thing is that it works with just about any program out there, including a terminal window, shell window, Outlook, etc.
Once it’s up and running, you simply have to click a button to get the window into a tab in WinTabber. Another cool thing about the software is that you can have multiple instances of WinTabber running, so that you can group a set of programs together into different grouped tabs. For example, if you have Word, Excel, and Outlook running, you can group them into one window with three tabs.
You can then start up another instance of WinTabber and create a group of tabs that might include a wed coding program, Firefox and IE, and a graphics app. That’s pretty neat! Any tab that is added to WinTabber disappears from the Taskbar. WinTabber will only display the name of the active tab for it’s title.
There are also some shortcuts that you can use with WinTabber to make moving between tabs easier:
CTRL + TAB – move to the next tab
SHIFT + TAB – move to the previous tab
Overall, it’s a cool application for organizing the explosion of windows that can appear on your desktop into neat little groups. It’s free, so definitely worth checking out! Enjoy! Source: Winsila
