Looking for a way to sync your Mac with a Windows mobile device? For most Mac owners, this is not a very easy task to accomplish and requires spending some cash on software to get it done. However, there is now a freeware beta application that you can use to quickly sync your Smartphone, etc with your Mac for free.
SyncMate 1.0 beta, from Eltima, will help you sync a Windows Mobile 5 or 6 device (Standard, Classic, or Pro) with Mac OS 10.4 and higher. Of course, the program was just released last month and is in beta, so you may find some compatibility issues or bugs in the software. However, make sure to report them as they will be coming out with an update soon with fixes.
Here’s a couple of nice features of the SyncMate software:
- Use it to install apps to your mobile phone
- Synchronize your Calendar, Contacts, Favorites, and Notes with iCal, Address Book, Bookmarks, and Stickies respectively.
- View information about the device including OS, memory status, battery state, alarms, etc.
- Keep track of all activities performed by SyncMate with action logs.
- Built-in converter so that you can compress video to MPEG4 and resize images while copying them over.
The program says it can support Leopard, but some people are having issues getting the software to work correctly on that version. However, the great feature set and updates will make this very worthwhile for many people.
The other programs that you could use to sync your Mac with a Windows Mobile device are Missing Sync or PocketMate. Missing Sync is $40, but has a tons of features that make it well worth the money. Using Missing Sync, you can sync your Mac with a Windows mobile device, a BlackBerry, a Palm OS, or a Sony PSP.
You can also use it to enhance the syncing between your iPhone and Mac, including syncing notes, call logs, SMS messages, etc. You can even transfer contacts, calendars, and photos from a Smartphone to your iPhone using Missing Sync. The current version of Missing Sync supports Leopard, but it’s in beta.
If you’re already using Missing Sync, you may as well stick with that, but if you’re trying this out for the first time, may as well give SyncMate a shot, it might work and save your $40. Enjoy! Source via DownloadSquad
