I would like to copy a video cassette of four hours to my computer and then split the file into two parts. Then copy (burn) each half to a DVD. This means each part should be played separately. Can you show me a way to do it?

…word of advice….after splitting your file, it is advisable to add the many chunks into either a zip archive or ISO, so you don’t find yourself attaching 20 million file pieces….by the way, this tool works great!!

you can try just compressing it using an online service like http://www.openrarfile.com

probably better for smaller files because it’s web based

I prefer Arduo File Splitter (http://www.arduosoft.com/index.php?q=node/10). It produces md5 checksum file to check if the merged file is good.
It is also fully portable (no istallation required).

This tool did not work on a 2.5 GB text file. It just said “done!” without even trying to do anything. argh
