Current semiconductor CPUs like Intel¡¯s Core 2 and AMD¡¯s Athlon along with their more advanced offspring have a  technology called DTS (Digital Temperature Signal) that can provide the temperature of each core of the CPU.  If you are interested, a more detailed ¡°how it works¡± article is located ÀÎÅÚÀÇ ÄÚ¾î 2¿Í AMDÀÇ ¾Ö½½·Ð CPU°¡ ±×µéº¸´Ù ´õ °í±Þ ÀÚ½Äó·³ ÇöÀçÀÇ ¹ÝµµÃ¼ ±â¼ú°ú ÇÔ²² »ï¸² DTS (µðÁöÅÐ ¿Âµµ ½ÅÈ£)´Â CPUÀÇ °¢ ÄÚ¾îÀÇ ¿Âµµ¸¦ Á¦°øÇÒ ¼öÀÖ´Â °ÍÀ̶ó°í µ¡ºÙ¿´´Ù.¸é, Á» ´õ ÀÚ¼¼ÇÑ °ü½É "¾î¶»°Ô"¹®¼¿¡ÀÖ´Â ÀÛǰÀÔ´Ï´Ù here ¿©±â¿¡ . This is useful if you suspect that your computer is overheating.  You might need to fix your fan or internal cooling system if the readings are not ÀǽɵǴ °æ¿ì ÇØ´ç ÄÄÇ»ÅÍÀÇ °ú¿ÀÌ À¯¿ëÇÕ´Ï´Ù.ÇÑ´Ù¸é ¼öÄ¡°¡ ¾Æ´Ï´Ù ´ç½Å ÆÒÀÌ ¶Ç´Â ³»ºÎ ³Ã°¢ ½Ã½ºÅÛÀ» ¼öÁ¤ÇØ¾ß ÇÒ ¼öµµÀÖ½À´Ï´Ù

In my home computer, my AMD Athlon X2 has the following results using Core Temp: ³» Áý¿¡ÀÖ´Â ÄÄÇ»ÅÍ¿¡¼ ³» AMDÀÇ ¾Ö½½·Ð X2´Â ´ÙÀ½°ú °°Àº °á°ú¸¦ »ç¿ëÇÏ¿© ÄÚ¾î ¿Âµµ°¡ :

Get Core Temp from ÄÚ¾î ¿Âµµ¿¡¼ this link ÀÌ ¸µÅ©¸¦ or ¶Ç´Â this link ÀÌ ¸µÅ©¸¦ .  It is a small but powerful program written by Arthur Liberman.  You should be able to run it on both XP and Vista.  The two most important things to notice on the Temp core window is the ID of the CPU and the temperature of each core: . ±×°ÍÀº ÀÛÁö¸¸ °·ÂÇÑ ÇÁ·Î±×·¥ ¾Æ¼ ¸®¹ö¸Õ¿¡ ÀÇÇØ ÀÛ¼ºµÈ °ÍÀÔ´Ï´Ù. ´ç½Åµé µÑ ´Ù XP¿Í ºñ½ºÅ¸¿¡¼ ½ÇÇà ÇÒ ¼ö ÀÖ¾î¾ßÇÑ´Ù. °¡Àå Áß¿äÇÑ µÎ °¡Áö ÇÙ½É Ã¢¹®¿¡ Å뺸Àº TempÀÇ CPUÀÇ ID¿Í °¢ ÄÚ¾îÀÇ ¿ÂµµÀÔ´Ï´Ù :

We can see from above that there is about 10 degree Celsius differential between the two cores.  This is an interesting fact since I always assumed that the two cores have almost the same temperature. ¿ì¸®´Â ±× À§¿¡ µÎ °³ÀÇ Äھ ¾à 10 ¼·¾¾ Â÷µ¿ »çÀ̸¦ º¼ ¼öÀÖ½À´Ï´Ù. Another distinctive feature of the program is that you will be able to see the readings of each core on the Quick Lunch toolbar.  This will appear as long as the program is running. It is worth commending the developer who worked on this software for making it run on minimal footprint.  In my setup, it only used 3MB of RAM with almost zero CPU utilization: ±×°ÍÀºÀÌ ¼ÒÇÁÆ®¿þ¾î¿¡ ±×°ÍÀ» ¸¸µé±âÀ§ÇÑ ÃÖ¼ÒÇÑÀÇ ¸éÀû¿¡¼ ½ÇÇàµÇ´Â ÀÛ¾÷Àº °³¹ßÀÚ °¡Ä¡ commending. ³» ¼³Á¤¿¡, ±×°ÍÀº ´ÜÁö CPU »ç¿ë·üÀÌ °ÅÀÇ Á¦·Î¿Í ÇÔ²² »ç¿ëÇÏ´Â RAMÀÇ 3¸Þ°¡¹ÙÀÌÆ® :

Besides core temp readings, there are information like TCaseMax and TDP that can help you determine ¡°overclockability¡± and heat build-up on AMD processors: ÄÚ¾î ¿Âµµ ¼öÄ¡ °Ô´Ù°¡, ÀÌ¹Ì TCaseMax¿Í °°Àº ´ç½ÅÀÇ TDP ""overclockability °áÁ¤°ú ´õÀ§¿¡ µµ¿òÀÌ µÉ Á¤º¸ ±¸Ãà - AMD ÇÁ·Î¼¼¼¿¡ :

If you are interested in overclocking using the concepts above, you can read this post from À§ÀÇ °³³äÀ» »ç¿ëÇÏ¸é ¿À¹ö¿¡ °ü½ÉÀÌÀÖ´Ù¸é, ´ç½ÅÀºÀÌ °Ô½Ã¹°¿¡¼ ÀÐÀ» ¼öÀÖ½À´Ï´Ù hardforum.com:http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1043186 hardforum.com : http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1043186

So when do we say that we need to add additional cooling?  First we need to determine how much our processor can handle.  This resource is a good guide: ±×·¡¼ ¿ì¸®°¡ Ãß°¡·Î ³Ã°¢? óÀ½¿¡ ¿ì¸®´Â ¿ì¸®ÀÇ ÇÁ·Î¼¼¼°¡ ó¸®ÇÒ ¼öÀÖ´Â ¹æ¹ýÀ» È®ÀÎÇØ¾ß ÇÒ Á¤µµ·Î Ãß°¡ÇÒ Çʿ䰡 ¸»À» ÇÒ ¼öÀÖ´Ù. From above you can see the maximum case temperature of each processor model on both AMD and Intel processors.  You can also Google your CPU¡¯s model to determine the maximum temperature.   When you get this number, you can compare it with your core temp readings. À§ÀÇ µÎ AMD¿Í ÀÎÅÚ ÇÁ·Î¼¼¼¿¡ °¢ ÇÁ·Î¼¼¼ ¸ðµ¨ÀÇ °æ¿ì ÃÖ´ë ¿Âµµ¸¦ º¼ ¼öÀÖ½À´Ï´Ù. ´ç½ÅÀº ¶ÇÇÑ ÃÖ´ë ¿Âµµ¸¦ È®ÀÎÇϱâ À§ÇØ CPUÀÇ ¸ðµ¨Àº GoogleÀÖ½À´Ï´Ù. ¶§ÀÌ ¹øÈ£¸¦ ¾òÀ¸¸é, ³Ê´Â ³ÊÀÇ ÄÚ¾î ¿Âµµ ¼öÄ¡¿Í ºñ±³ÇÒ ¼öÀÖ½À´Ï´Ù .

If you see that they are near or core readings are exceeding your supposed to be ¡°maximum limit¡± – you might need to add a heat sink or fan on your processor.  On my old PC, the thermal paste conducting the heat sink and the core of the CPU was worn out and it caused the heat to build up on the CPU since the heat can¡¯t reach the heat sink. ´ç½ÅÀº ±× »ç¶÷µéÀÌ ±Ùó¿¡ÀÖ´Ù¸é, ¶Ç´Â ÄÚ¾î ¼öÄ¡°¡ ´ç½ÅÀÇ "ÃÖ´ë ÇѵµÇؾß"Ãʰúº¸°í - ´ç½ÅÀÇ ÇÁ·Î¼¼¼¿¡ ÆÒ ¹æ¿±âÇϰųª Ãß°¡ÇÒ Çʿ䰡ÀÖ½À´Ï´Ù. ³» ¿À·¡µÈ PC¿¡¼ ¿ ºÙ¿©³ÖÀ¸ ¹æ¿±â¿Í ÇÙ½É ½Ç½Ã CPUÀÇ ´â¾Æ°ú ±× ÀÌÈÄÀÇ ¿ÀÌ È÷Æ® ½ÌÅ©¿¡ µµ´ÞÇÒ ¼ö¾ø½À´Ï´Ù CPU¿¡ ±¸ÃàÇϱâ À§ÇØ ¿À» ¹ß»ýÇß´Ù.

That was the time I learned the value of the thermal paste – it was a costly lesson so I hope you will not make this mistake when handling CPUs. ±× ¿Âµµ¿¡ ºÙ¿©ÀÇ °¡Ä¡¸¦ ¹è¿î ½Ã°£À̾ú´Ù - °ªºñ½Ñ ±³ÈÆ ±×·¡¼ ´ç½ÅÀÌ ½Ç¼öÇÏÁö ¾ÊÀ» ¶§ CPU°¡ ó¸®ÇÏ°Ô Èñ¸ÁÀ̾ú´Ù.
