I'm writing this post on how to connect your PC or computer to a TV because last week I returned from a trip in India and wanted to show all of my pictures and videos to my family from my laptop onto our HDTV, but unfortunately I did not have the correct cords and so after fumbling around for 30 minutes trying to connect my computer to the TV, I had to tell everyone that they would have to wait till the next weekend! Pretty annoying considering the times we live in, it should be quite easy to connect the two together! 1. S-Video – This is probably the most common method out there currently because an S-Video cable is cheap as heck and just about every TV under the sun has a S-Video port. 1. You could try to do a few things for starters: go ahead and change the resolution on your laptop to something lower, maybe 800×600, sometimes that causes the problem. Dude, the easiest and by far the best way I have seen is to set the advance timings on a pc just right and use a vga to scart cable (Maybe with audio of you don't have the pc hooked up to an audio system of some sort). I was literally trying to figure this out jsut a few hours ago at Circuit City, for my friend who just got a HD tv for his dorm. I have just purchased the cables to connect my laptop to my TV. Ho appena acquistato i cavi per collegare il portatile al televisore. But guess what, my laptop DOESN'T have the S Video port! Ma indovinate un po ', il mio NON laptop non hanno la porta S-Video! It is an Acer Aspire so hey, I guess you get what you pay for! I have a Tevion 32″ LCD TV, my computer has 3 outputs, 1xVGA, 1xDVI, 1xS-Video. Ho un Tevion 32 "LCD TV, il mio computer è dotato di 3 uscite, 1xVGA, 1xDVI, S-Video x1. The video works fine but of course I cannot get any audio since the TV does not appear to have a audio input related to the HDMI video input. Im kinda in the same position as Nick H. Firstly i connected by 32″ LCD HDTV to my computer via a S-Video cable. Im kinda nella stessa posizione di Nick H. Well, I too have some problems trying to connect my PC to my television. Beh, anch'io ho alcuni problemi cercando di collegare il mio PC al televisore. The TV is a pretty recent Philips CRT screen with S-video and composite (yellow, white, red cinch). My Sony HDTV 42″ has a RGB connector in the back and beside it is an audio in (RCA jacks – red and white). I'm puzzled because the laptop acknowledges that the Plasma is connected (as it detects the actual plasma's name) and when connected, the plasma briefly displays the desktop (for approx 0.5s) before displaying a blank (black) screen. So I got the tv and laptop working together, my problem is that when I try to full screen somehting like a hockey game, my lap top does it but the tv does not. Ok, I have a Compaq Presario Desktop Computer.
I purchased it for almost 170$ less because it came without monitor.
Then i bought a 25 FT SVGA Male to Male Cable to plug my desktop into my RCA HDTV.
( I cant stand my current monitor lol )
If i plug the cable into my laptop, and hit the CRT/LCD button, then the TV Changes from No Signal, to the Laptop Screen. How do I get the Desktop to do this?
I cant exactly see what Im doign with no monitor plugged in…

Hi, I have connected my laptop to both my LCD TV's. The problem I have is that I would like to be able to watch TV whilst using the laptop. I cannot find a way of making the tv screen the main screen so that the sound is from the program I am watching rather than the laptop. I have a Lexsor LCD and an LG LCD…..anyone have any ideas as it is driving me crazy. Manual is useless by the way!!!

Having the same audio difficulty as most. I have hooked the RCA cables from my headphone jack on my laptop to the RGB input on the back of my LCD TV… still no sound. I live in Korea and have a samsung PAVV 40Inch LCD TV.
My HP laptop is not bought Korea though. When I connect my Laptop to the LCD TV using the 16 pin VGA connector I get both the picture and sound, but the colour is all messed up. The laptop monitor colour is normal , but the TV screen colour is pinkish.
What could be the reason and what can I do to get the normal colours on LCD TV screen too. The TV Usere Manual is all in Korean and therefore of no use to me.

The issue I have is, the first time when I did this, the computer screen went back to normal after removing the connection to the tv but the last time I did it and disconnected it from the tv my screen on the laptop remains smaller in tv mode. if u dnt get the picture on the telly, then u have to adjust the resolution in ur laptop/pc. higher resolution wont give the picture but the cursor mark. GOOD LUCK

This is exactly the same problem Im encountering..especialy when I scroll through websites. Questo è esattamente lo stesso problema Im incontrare .. especialy quando ho scorrere attraverso siti web. It's seems to be connected with the refresh rate of the monitor. E sembra essere collegato con la frequenza di aggiornamento del monitor. My temporary fix is to turn off the speakers. La mia soluzione temporanea è quella di spegnere gli altoparlanti. The regular sound from the PC is fine via a digital connection….except when the TV speakers are activated. im using the vga option to connect my pc to hd tv, i get the load up screen for about 20seconds then its goes off and a message appears “not in range” i have tried changing the screen size and resolution but theres no change. Kris, you have to lower the resolution even more. Kris, si deve ridurre la risoluzione anche di più. Hey, I have a samsung 42″ plasma tv and im trying to connect a Dell XPS to it using a vga cord…the problem is that when i connect it to my tv it reads that there is a “pc” input on there but then says “no signal” please help me I have been dealing with this for months now! thankyou very much!

Well I was searching the web because my computer has a 7 pin port and my tv has a 4 pin port, well apparently it should do the same thing as a normal cable if you connect a 4 pin cable into a 7 pin port…

I have a DELL INSPIRON 5100 laptop. I purchased a s-video 7 pin rca (red, blue and green) tv connector so I can watch what I watch online (hulu) on tv. I know, I know, I should just get tivo, but this is cheaper. Although, with all the time I spend reading on-line how to set this up, the cost efficiency is decreasing daily.
I just plugged it in, and nothing.
I tried F8 with Fn and it flickers but that's about it.
I put down the resolution of my laptop and that didnt work either.

I have a sony vaio vgn scz370p laptop (windows xp) and a samsung HP-R4252 42 inch plasma tv. I hooked them up via a vga cable and had it so the tv was mirrored to my laptop. To get to it you would click the “source” button, you pass the source “AV” and should go to one called “pc” but its not there anymore. However, if I restart my computer and click through the sources PC shows up again. But as soon as I click source to watch tv and try to go back to pc its gone unless I reboot my computer, what gives?

I had the same problem! My fix was, if you are using windows then once you have the hookup made use F1 and F3 to toggle back and forth between PC and TV. I found this the easiest. You don't have to go into the settings then.

I have a PC with PVR with DVI out and S-Video out. Connects normally to my old Sony HD Ready projection TV via S-Video and RCA Audio. When I tried to hook this PVR PC to my new Toshiba Regza 52HL167, the TV doesn't get any signal from either S-Video, or the new DVI to HDMI cable I just purchased. I'm going to try the VGA next, but I don't think it will work. Any suggestions? Qualche suggerimento?

Hi, I have a laptop and connecting it via a HDMI cable to an 1080p LCD TV. When setting the res to 1080 as a 2nd monitor (the TV that is), the TV flickers (the images appear to move intermittently, only about 2 mm). However bumping the res way down below to 1280 x 768 provides a stable image – Anyone have similar experiences? (The TV rates as Full HD) Crap HDMI cable? (admittedly a no-name cable). I bought a cable on ebay, 25ft long, all in one – 3 on one end (red, white, yellow) and the other end is s-video and audio jack. I plugged everything in correctly, Id like to think I did (?), hit the FN & F4 key at the same time, what is on my monitor is now on my tv. I found that you cannot have the movie running first, just have windows desktop showing. Then, if you want to load a movie, just use your mouse, turn on movie from your movie player. So far, I have gotten the movie to load this way.
My problem is no sound. I still have the sound coming out of my laptop speakers. I have tried to change the audio settings so it does not play through laptop speakers and goes through headphone plug, where audio plug is plugged in, but still no sound coming out of tv.
What am I missing? Is there perhaps another FN key or something that will send the audio out too?

I tried to post another comment so if this is a duplicate – sorry.
After trying and trying here is what I came up with to get my sound to work. If you have speakers plugged into your laptop, unplug them. I had a speaker plugged into my usb port, and had the wire plugged from tv to headset jack – as soon as I unplugged my usb speaker, the sound went to the television.

my dad has a dell laptop that isnt anything too great and a 47″ VIZIO with 1080dpi (full HD) and he hooked it up with just a VGA cable and set the tv on RGB mode and it work fantistically! the resolution was great, no blur….crystal clear so im going out and buying a tv to hook up my laptop…if it worked for him itl work for me!

I have a dell inspiron e1505. i'm connecting to a sony wega 55″ lcd projection tv using vga->vga/hdmi adaptor -> hdmi cord-> hdmi slot on back of tv
have everything connect correctly. on the channel for inputing hdmi and when i press fn + f8 or even select if manually from the properties -> settings tab. I have recently bought a 37″ Daewoo lcd tv and am looking to connect my hp 530 laptop to it. i have tried using a vga to vga cable, the picture appears but is in a green/yellow mode. i went to a local computer stored and he advised me to buy a vga to dvi connector along with a dvi to hdmi lead, i then connected these to the laptop and pc with no avail. Does any1 have any suggestions as to where im going wrong? i think the problem may be that the signal from the vga is analog and dvi is digital. is this correct and if so how do i fix this?

Hello everybody, Ciao a tutti,
To have audio and video at same same on tv (digital one) you just have to connect the cable vga male/vga male to your computer and to the Tv ( PC In – see details of your tv on manual specifications).
For the audio is the same, you need a audio cable 3,5jack/3,5jack and connect it to your computer ( on the sound green ) and to your Tv on the audio for PC next to the vga cable.
Dont use the audio-in red and white because those are only for AV source (ex. a camera)
I hope have help you to have your tv as a pc monitor for games or surfing the net.

When I connect my laptop to the TV, the picture on the TV is extremely large and only shows the (enlarged) center of my laptop screen. I have Gateway M-Series Laptop which has VGA 15 output. I connected the laptop to my LCD TV(LG) using VGA to S-Vedio (4pin) connector and S-vedio (Female to Female) to the TV.
I was able to change the display settings to show the desktop to external display screen. But my TV screen says no signal.
Does the VGA output need special driver to show on TV screen?

I have connected my laptop and tv with a VGA, and the screen comes out perfect. However, the sounds doesnt come through the TV… Do I need a seperate cord for this, or is the VGA cord suppose to send sounds signals through also?

Those of you who are struggling to get audio sound but are still searching for right cables that connect their incompatible lap tops and TVs, I have found a solution. I connected my laptop headphone to a small home FM transmitter that can be bought for about $20 and now I tune the audio in FM Radio.While I am still searching for the correct cable this method helps me to watch movies and videos from my laptop/pC on any TV that can be connected to my PC/Laptop. I use the same transmitter to play music in my car from my Ipod. At home all of us can hear the audio in FM radio and cell phones with radio when I play music from my laptop or Ipod. I found this to be the cheapest solution!

I have a 42″ Toshiba LCD TV, with HDMI ports( 4 to be exact) and a Toshiba Laptop with a HDMI Port, when i connect to each other i get a unsupported Video Signal problem, any suggestions or anyone know what is happening?

I have just paid for a SVGA cable to connect my laptop to my tv now it works perfectly for about 30seconds and then refreshes and then connects again and keeps doing this over and over again and this gets kinda (VERY) annoying when trying to watch a film or try to show powerpoints!

hi, just would like to put this out there, but a 7 pin s-vid 2 4 pin s-vid does work…this is because when u put in the 4 pins the 3 missing ones are filled up for…so just buy urself an s-video cable (4 pin 2 4 pin and make sure ur laptop and tv hav an s-vide port)…try it

I had hook hdmi from tv to my computer dvi. It show picture but no sound. I brought the 3.5mm Mini-Stereo Male to Two RCA Male Speaker Cable to connect to both pc and tv. Its still don't work. I am attempting to hook my PC to my TV (analog) via VGA to RCA cable. When I plug in the cable and turn on the television there are 3 visuals of my desktop in black and white and it also scrolls from top to bottom like its getting bad reception. I have messed with the resolution and color settings to no avail. Can someone give me more ideas?

1. 1. If you have a new laptop with HDMI, this is your best bet. It is a digital signal and includes both audio and video. You can buy these cables at WalMart.

hi – we were having trouble getting a picture on my PC when connected via VGA to an HDTV – there were some suggestions earlier, but what worked for us was:
*change the resolutions on the PC (600×800) and then hit FN/F7

I'm trying to connect a desktop PC to 36in LCD TV. I tried to use a splitter “Y” female to two male outputs the TV worked fine, but unfortunately my PC monitor was blurry and lost a little brightness. (I think that the signal was lost because it's not very strong and two screens are too much).
Also, one of my friends said that I can damage one of the screens by using a VGA splitter.
I want to buy a VGA PCI video card with one VGA output, but some people say that it wouldn't work because the PC would recognize only one video card either on-board or installed PCI video card. The only way to do this is to get a dual VGA PCI card, but it is a little expensive with the comparison to single VGA video card and I already have one on-board video card for one screen and if I buy another single VGA would it work? By the way I'm also using 25ft long extension cable from my PC to the LCD TV screen. I haven't tried connection audio 3.5MM cable but eventualy I will. My main problem is how to connect PC to TV? and my question is – I already have a video card in my PC (I hope I do) and if I buy a single VGA PCI video card would I be able to view both screens or not? Is my computer would recognize both on-board video card and newly installed VGA PCI video card??? I'm confused:(
If anyone knows how to solve this please let me know!!!

I have a Dell Inspiron 2200 Laptop and have recently purchased a samsung LCD 19 TV.
I was kindly wondering which cables are needed for me to operate my laptop via my new TV.
My laptop has 1 VGA port as far as I know, and my samsung television has a PC IN connection, DVI IN, S-VIDEO port, and some various other red,white and yellow ports.

Your best bet to get an awesome picture quality will be VGA to HDMI cable about 1.8m max to connect your laptop to HDTV. I bought it on eBay for $8.00 (includes shipping from Hong Kong). I'd highly recomment to download divx.com on your laptop.

I have Sony XBR6 46″ 1080p HDTV, Win XP sytem, wiht Geforce 8500 GT Video card, and DVI to HDMI cable 15ft long. I am trying to connect my my desktop to TV. The VGA cable connection to TV works and while VGA connected the VDI to HDMI to same TV connection works. but when VGA disconnected and only DVI to HDMI connection to TV the desktop keeps rebooting and does not go into windows at all.. I had the same problem but then I right clicked on my desktop and chose output to, monitor (knowing that monitor meant my tv as I'd already set it up and done all the resolution adjustments). This was after 2 hours and a chat with my dad.

I have a toshiba hd ready tv and a sony vaio laptop that has blu and a hdmi port. I connect the tv and the laptop together and the picture comes up perfectly on the tv screen but the audio completly shguts out altogether, both the laptop and the tv. I have even connected a stereo player to the laptop and still there is no sound. In my sound settings it shows the hdmi connection as working properly and the noise/sound bar moves accordingly to the video i am watching but i still cannot hear anything! I was trying to hook my computer to my new HDTV, I was told to buy a DVI to HDMI cable, I went to the store and picked up a DVI-D to HDMI I connected it and I get an image but is not good at all, it has some kind of green stripes on the screen. Could it be becuase is a DVI-D? Does that have anything to do with it? Whats the difference bewteen DVI-D and DVI?

Ok I have a problem with connecting my computer to my TV My computer has a VGA connection port but my TV doesn't, and my computer doesn't have an S Video port but my TV does.
I didn't want to get into buying anything too expensive since I probably won't be using it very often. Would there be a way o connect my computer to my TV through my DVD player or a VCR? (neither of which have a VGA connection port.)

if your pc/laptop is not equipped with dvi output you can get vga to dvi adapter. just connect it to your vga on pc connect dvi to hdmi cable to adapter and tv. this is the problem i ran into since my pc doesnt have dvi output. the cable and adapter cost about $60. dont be fooled by the stores that will tell you that you need to buy an adapter that costs about $150 plus the cable cost on top of that.

I have the following:
IBM PC, Winfast PX8400 dual monitor card, Sony FWD-40LX2F montor, VGA cable with DVI adaptor.
If I connect the Sony monitor at 800×600/60 then it displays but flashes every 3 seceonds.
It sometimes display this message: Not Supported Signal.

Hello i bought a HDMI to HDMI cord today at gay Best Buy.I am using a HP Pavilion DV4 special edition laptop and a 52″ sony grand wega tv. I've tried everything I can think of including updating my graphics card driver and still cannot get a picture on my screen. When i put tv on pc mode my laptop screen flashes for a second then returns to normal. In the ATI catalyst control center it recognizes my 2nd monitor but have tried every setting and get no picture on my screen. Anyone know how to fix this ill send them 1 billion dollars paypal cuz i already spent 1 billion hours trying to figure this out!

It helped me a lot in a critical situation. There was nobody to help me out while I was arranging for a presentation and meeting. This page helped me to do it myself without expecting anybody else's help.

Even with the VGA cable from PC to my plasma VGA and review the settings from my plasma and reviewing the settings from my pc…nothing. My plasma goes black

I connected my computer to my tv and it works but the picture is shifted to the left so I can't see the left half of the picture, and there is a huge black area at the right of the screen how do i center the picture?

I have a sony vaio laptop and a 37″ samsung LCD TV and bought a VGA cable but it just keeps saying “check signal cable” in a huge box in the middle of the TV although I can see my wallpaper picture in the background but it's faint and not clear.
Can anyone help please

Anyone looking for audio, I was on here trying to figure out how to get it and my husband just got it working by downloading the appropriate high def audio drivers. We are using an HDMI cable.

I have Acer Aspire 4736. It has VGA, HDMI Port.
I want to connect it to my 22″ Flat Screen AKAI TV. The also does not have and S-Video Port. I Just has Regular A/V Input output ports and a RS-Input port. I dont know what this RS-Input Port is?
Is there a way, I can have my laptop screen output on my TV?

I have my HP desk top connected to my Samsung HDTV, works great, when I first did this I really liked it, but when we moved and rehooked it up it no longer has sound through the TV, it did before… what should I undo to get the sound back?

Question…I have a Toshiba Satellite L300 series laptop and a Panasonic Plasma TV. I ordered a VGA out to HDMI in cable to connect. Now that I have them hooked up, I cannot move the computer screen to the tv. I tried Function F5 on computer which is for LCD Out, but that doesn't work. Can someone help?

I am connecting my laptop to tv by a converter I bought from e-bay. My TV has s-video input whereas laptop has vga output. It was working fine but suddenly the tv screen started turning green as soon as I connnect my laptop.When I disconnect the tv runs fine.Any advice will be helpful. thanks snd regards…a

When I connected my Dell XPS laptop to my Toshiba 40″ HDTV with a HDMI cable, I got only video but no audio. I then pulled out the manual, and found out that I should connect the PC audio output(headphone) to the TV audio input. I did that, and still no audio! Finally I went to the on-screen menu, audio settings, and set the HDMI audio input to analog. That did the trick. I am happy!
The HDMI transmits both video and audio in digital format, but the PC is probably transmitting the audio in analog format still, hence the disconnect.

I'm not sure VGA to HDMI can work at all because the signals are too different. Unless you buy an actual transcoder box. Maybe someone more informed can respond.
