Does anybody know how often Gmail will check other accounts? I’m investigating it and it seems that sometimes this interval can be 15-20 minutes and more, which is unacceptable for me. It’s too long.

I’d much rather learn about how to connect to Gmail from two different pop accounts. If you set it up wrong in gmail, you end up leaving messages on the server, but each mail check results in your account downloading all 500 messages on the server. Check again and you get the same 500 messages again.

Please could we have a guide on avoiding this?

This is really useful, but I noticed that it only retrieves the emails that are in the Inbox in my other email accounts. How can I get it to transfer all the emails from the various folders? Thanks.

For those of you saying you are trying to “connect Outlook account to Gmail”, there is no such thing. Outlook is simply a client and downloads mail from a mail server.

You can go to the account settings in Outlook and see what the POP3 and SMTP server settings are for your email. Then enter that into GMail when adding a new account.

If you simply want to import all your Outlook mail to Gmail, you can use the Google Email Uploader:

However, that only works with Google Apps accounts. You can read this article to export Outlook email to Gmail:

i m also facing the same prob Yunus posted already.
When i tried to connect my outlook account in my Gmail account, i also found the same comment— ”Server denied POP3 access for the given username and password”
Kindly suggest me what to do…???

Hi, Milan Akishore is right you have to subscribe for the Yahoo plus to get POP3 access, same is true for hotmail, Akishore.
For your information Milan, POP 3 is a protocol that enables your emails to be accessed through any email program like outlook express, Microsoft outlook, thunderbird or squirrel mail etc.

Nirmal, I just tried it out after reading Vijay’s article and I’m really enjoying it!

Milan, for Yahoo I know you have to be a Yahoo Plus user to get POP3 access, I’m not sure about Hotmail, it might be the same. Give it a shot by putting in your Hotmail address and see if it works.
