I also get an error message when I was trying to turn on discover my computer for setting up a home network. I get a message that says,"task image is corrupt or has been tampered with". I don't remeber the other message exactly but it says ss-- has stopped working or internal error. Also, the host process message I get when I try to do a back up. I have completed only 1 back up on my computer but now I cannot do any. I tried restor but I can't make a restore point because I get a message that the shadow copy is missing. Please help. my computer was bought brand new almost 2 yrs ago. I do not know why there is so many problems.

I had this problem, along with Goggle Chome browser not loading and a Windows Update error code 80072WFE. After months of searching, I found that mosty likely, the computer was infected with ROOTKITS. Try to run TDSSKILLER to find any rootkits. Download and run from here:

support.kaspersky.com/downloads/utils/tdsskiller.exe

This program cured all 3 of my problems.

ALL I DID WAS DISABLE SUPERFETCH. Most of the errors were gone after that. No effect on performance whatsoever, (yet, I guess).

So i followed your instructions and I see that the error is caused by this: ( in friendly view)//./root/CIMV2
 SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99
 0x80041003
and apparently the source is a WMI. I don't know exactly where that is on my vista.

Also i have Avast and Malware bites and this keeps showing up: svchost.exe
 6.0.6001.18000
 47918b89
 ntdll.dll
 6.0.6001.18000
 4791a7a6
 c000071b
 00088ed9
 474
 01cb7aba580c2ca2

I have tried deleting it since it is popping up on my avast showing that its a virus of some sort or a program corrupting my computer.

You seem to know a lot about computers and I am at a loss. Please oh please help me.

I get this message when trying to install The Sims 3 on to my computer. I had this game on here for over a year and then all of a sudden it started having issues and wouldn't let me reinstall it.

Any ideas?

When I get to the part where it says "View event logs", something pops up saying "windows needs your permission to continue." So I click continue, and then a big red X appears saying, "This application has failed to start because COMDLG32.dll was not found. Re-installing this application may fix the problem."

Whenever I start again with the steps above, the same problem occurs.

Please, Please, Please can somebody help me? I've had this problem for nearly two weeks now. It has removed Flash Player off my laptop, so I can no longer watch video's etc, and I am unable to re-download it. It has also removed several other programs.

Does anybody have a solution?

Hey, people.

I had the same problem with my Windows Vista.. And after days of looking through these forums, I finally figured it out how to fix this.

First of all, my problem was my sound kept on going and then the windows host process kept on coming up. All I did was right click on 'My Computer' then click 'Manage' and the 'Computer Management' window pops up. Then click on 'Device Manager' and then click on your 'sound, video and game controllers.' Then, right click on your sound drive, which in my case was 'realtek high definition audio' and select Properties. Click on the Driver tab and see if the "Roll Back Driver" is available to click. If so, select the Roll Back Driver, and that should restore the Driver when it was last working fine. Then, restart your computer and the problem should have gone.

It worked for me!

Have a nice day.

Ok, I'm just happy I was able to get onto this website. Just to start off, I have Windows Vista Home Premium. So basically, a day or two ago I started getting an error message saying that "Host Process for Windows Services has stopped working". When I clicked "Check online for solutions" it wouldn't connect me to the Internet and said the page couldn't be displayed every time I tried. I just clicked ok and everything was fine, a little slow, but fine. But yesterday, everything fell apart. I don't know if any of this is related, but here's what has happened:

-My computer was really slow yesteday morning and still today. When I tried to type stuff (particularly on the Internet), only a few letters show up because it's really lagging I guess and I have to type Sooooo SLOOOWLY
-I started getting the host error message and my computer kept freezing
-After the message, my computer goes black and my taskbar at the bottom of the screen gets weird and now it looks different. It looks older and its white and the time doesn't display. It also sometimes disappears completely until I restart. My internet is the same -- it looks like an older version
-Most annoying problem: When I go on the internet, random ads pop up in the middle of me doing something (this never happens -- my computer has so much anti-virus stuff and anti-spyware, I've never had a problem! My dad's a computer guy so he keeps it up-to-date. I know I should ask him to fix this but he's very busy and getting older and I don't want to stress him out). Anyway, when I type something into google and click on a link, it takes me to some totally different advertisement page that sometimes tries to imitate the same topic I searched for! So frustrating! Also, when I try to go to the microsoft webpage for help, it says Internet Explorer can't display the site .. it doesn't redirect me like it does with other sites; it just won't let me on microsoft.

I've tried everything! I did all my McAfee Scans, I did my Spybot Search and Destroy Scan and Repair, I even downloaded 2 other malware protector programs and did a scan but the problem persists. I've tried downloading updates, but it won't let me because my computer won't connect to the microsoft site. I've googled for help and tried to get advice, but I'm not sure of the problem and most of the time my internet takes me to some random site and I can't get help. I was thinking maybe I installed a bad update, but I don't think so because my last installation was almost a week ago, and this only started intensely yesterday morning. I'm guessing it's a virus or spyware/malware?! I don't know! Should I go back to a restore point? Start it up in Safe Mode?

I went into my event log in the control panel to see what was going on, and it looks like there's an error with the Msi Installer but I don't know what to do from there. I don't even know if the host error is related to my internet problems or not. Here are a few of the details that come with the Host error message:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: svchost.exe
Application Version: 6.0.6001.18000

I hope I provided enough details, but just let me know if you need any more.

Someone please help!

Thank You!

I've gone through the steps noted above, none have seemed to work. Everything you've mentioned as far as the issues has been spot on. I started dealing with these issues after something was sent to me through my facebook account. Do you have any advice for me?

Thanks.

Hi Caleb.
I myself am a novice at computers also. I did however beat this problem but I am not sure how I did it.
Someone suggested to download and run two programs. SUPERAntispyware and Malwarebytes which were both free at the time. I also used Regcure from paretologic.com . One thing I did do before this though was to back date my system. It runs Vista and was capable of going back to a earlier setting. In my case it went back to about 2 months. I then had to reload some of the programs back on so as to pick up the mistakes in the shortcuts and icons.
At the time of the trouble I was getting a lot of virus attacks through my email. I have reconfigured the security on that. Its my belief it all started out with a virus that my then current AVG antivirus did not pick up on. All the best.

I myself am a novice at computers also. I did however beat this problem but I am not sure how I did it.
Someone suggested to download and run two programs. SUPERAntispyware and Malwarebytes which were both free at the time. I also used Regcure from paretologic.com .
I just found out I have over 6,690 events when I checked my event logs after restarting my laptop spanning clear from 4/24/2009 to now. Most of my critical ones(which are very few of them) are related to Kernel-Power. I don't even know what that is. But the vast majority of them deal with Service Control Manager Eventlog Provider errors. Which I also don't know what that is either. I really hope I'm not screwed here because I can't afford to get a new laptop.

My laptop keeps saying the host process has shut down problem. I tried fixing it with the first suggestion but every time I click on the event logs button it always says C:\Windows\system32\mmc.exe the pipe state is invalid. I might know the source of the problem but I'm not sure if that's the real case or not. I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 and it's almost 2 years old. I've had my share of problems with it.
