Recover accidentally closed programs in Windows

Posted on May 15, 2008 at 5:33 am

Have you ever ended up closing a program that you didn’t mean to close? For example, maybe you have several browser windows open, your email open, instant messengers connected, and a photo editing program like Photoshop open. You go to close Photoshop, but you accidentally click the wrong “X”, thereby closing the browser and all of the tabs that were open too.

Edit MP3 metadata with Mp3tag for free

Posted on May 15, 2008 at 5:16 am

Do you have hundreds or even thousands of ripped and downloaded mp3, aac, OGG and other audio files with inconsistent or incomplete metadata? The freeware application Mp3tag (currently at v2.41) can make life a bit easier for those of us who like to keep files organized, with accurate tags.

We’ve all ripped CDs that we have legitimately purchased which did not give accurate and complete metadata tags in the extracted tracks. You know, the ‘track 01′ of album ‘not indentified’ conundrum. And it’s a tremendous problem when you are converting large numbers of CDs.

Change Windows startup and shutdown sounds

Posted on May 14, 2008 at 5:22 am

I personally hate the default Windows startup and shutdown sounds, they are just plain loud and annoying! I changed mine a long time ago and since someone asked me how to do this recently, I thought I would go through the steps in order to change the Windows login and logoff sounds.

Interestingly, you can also change other sounds in Windows, such as the empty recycle bin sound, the new hardware insert sound, the error sound and lots more! You can take an MP3 of your favorite artist, convert it into WAV format and then use it to replace the default Windows sound.

DExposE2 is a great partner for your large wide-screen display, putting that extra screen real estate to work navigating around your documents and applications.  Yes, alt-tabbing is quick as long as you only work on a single window per application.  Who does that!?  My applications always have multiple windows open, especially the case when I am working in MS Office.

Turn your CDs into flash drives using Vista’s Live File System

Posted on May 13, 2008 at 5:03 am

Windows Vista implements a great new way to use your Optical media, and that is the Live file system. The Live File System essentially allows you to use regular CDs and DVDs as you would Flash Drives. This means that you can just copy data to your media without the need to burn them. It also allows you to delete files off a DVD or CD. Though there are some disadvantages, which we’ll get to later.
