How to quickly access programs via desktop quick launch bar

One Windows feature I do not see many people use in the workplace is the Quick Launch Toolbar. This makes access to programs a lot faster than clicking through the many options of the Start Menu. After installing a program that I know I am going to use frequently throughout the day I will send a shortcut to Quick Launch.
First you want to make sure it is enabled (it is not enabled by default in XP). First Right Click on the Taskbar, scroll to Toolbars, and then choose Quick Launch.
You will then notice some icons next to the Start menu. This is your Quick Launch Toolbar.
The next thing you can do is right click the Taskbar and uncheck Lock the Taskbar. Which will allow you to show as many or few shortcuts as you wish, my preference is three with the first one being “Show Desktop”.
After you have completed configuring the look and feel of Quick Launch, it is time to move over some program shortcuts. This can done simply by Right Clicking the shortcut from the Start menu or Desktop, dragging it over to Quick Launch, releasing and select Copy Here.
There you go. You will have access to all of your programs via the Quick Launch bar making them much more at the ready. This is also a great tip if you don’t like to clutter up your desktop with shortcuts.
