With the numerous gadgets out there these days, it’s sometimes tough to figure out how to get media from your computer to your PSP, mobile phone, or iPod. Luckily, there are a lot of tools out there on the Internet that can help you convert AVI, MPEG, WMV, etc to 3GP, MP4, H.264, MOV, etc. These tools are great for people who have iPods, video-playing PDA’s, or straight media players like Archos products.
So here’s a quick guide on how you can convert a video that you might have downloaded from YouTube or a VOB file ripped off from a DVD into a format that is compatible on your PSP, mobile phone, and your iPod. I’ll try and make sure to mention Windows and MAC utilities that you can use, just in case you’re not stuck on Windows like me.
1. Convert video for you PSP – To get video onto your PSP, you can use iPSP, a tool for Mac and Windows. It’s tag line is total PSP management because it allows you to convert and transfer photos, music, videos and documents onto your PSP with ease. It integrates fully with Mac OS X and with your iTunes library. iPSP can even backup your PSP saved games for archiving or sharing with others. iPSP supports MPEG, AVI, MOV, WMV, VOB, DV, M2T, and many more!

2. Convert video into 3GP for mobile phone – Most phones that support video need to be in 3GP, 3G2, or MPEG-4 format to work. Alive 3GP Video Converter allows you to convert DivX, XviD, MPEG, MOV, MPG, MOD, QickTime, MP4, 3G2, SWF, GIF, DV, MJPEG, VOB, WMV, ASF, and AVI to 3GP, 3G2, or MPEG-4. You can also perform conversions to other formats also, not just one way. The program lets you convert videos in batches and set a schedule for the conversion to be performed at night, etc.

If you’re running on a MAC, you can use a different program called ffmpegX that allows you to encode video in just about any format. It also includes a universal video player that supports VOB files and subtitles. On top of that, it has some basic video editing features also!

3. Convert video into iPod format – Now that we covered the PSP and mobile phones, the last thing you can possibly put your videos on is the iPod. Thankfully, this is also easily done using NullRiver’s MoviePod software for Windows and MAC. This program is also integrated with iTunes, so once a video is finished converting, it’ll automatically be added to your playlist and uploaded to your iPod. Also, it has a simple to use drag and drop interface that supports conversion in batches. The program supports converting MOV, MPG, AVI, ASF, WMV, VOB, DV, and FLC formats.

That should be about it! Hopefully, using one of these programs you’ll be able to get video onto your mobile device! If not, post a comment and I’ll see if I can help out!

trying to get my new camcorder hybrid HDD which records in .mod format converted to play on my mac G4 powerbook (ie:iMovie, etc). none I’ve tried so far will work. I work as a paramedic for the city of Toronto as well as in provincial law enforcement; so these videos may save a life, if not my own.
If this is the wrong program (again) would you kindly directly me to the proper site?
Most grateful,
