Did you ever feel the need to learn something new during your spare time? Recently I was touching up on my project management skills (I was given a bigger responsibility, woot!) and I was a little frustrated by how few good materials are written about it on the Net. The materials I needed are mostly sold as ebooks. Like other cost saving individual I ended up looking for a free alternative.

When it comes to Windows file management, there are a few words that might come to mind. Archiving, storing, compressing are but a few common terms. In recent years, especially when litigation is involved, there are things that businesses now have to accomplish with respect to handling digital documents. Of course your average individual is not excluded by any means.
Create HTML email signatures for Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo Mail

Most people know how to create email signatures for programs like Microsoft Outlook because it’s easy, however, creating professional HTML email signatures for online email services such as Gmail, Hotmail, and Yahoo Mail is a real pain.
I had written earlier about a Greasemonkey script called Insert HTML Signature, which works for only Gmail. An HTML signature is much better than a normal plain text signature because you can add lots of formatting to make your signature much more professional looking.

Ever need to create an HTML file that lists all the files and folders in a particular Windows directory? Probably not something you’ll need to do very often, but it does come in handy every once in a while.
For example, if you want to quickly create a list of all files and folders inside of a Window directory and send it to someone in a nice easy to view format. Earlier I had written about a program called Karen’s Directory Printer, a free program that prints a list of all files and folders in a Windows directory. However, it only allows you to save the list as a text file.

If you’re run the default Defragmenter program in Windows recently, you may have not realized that the program cannot defrag any file that is currently open, which includes all system files, the Windows page file, and the Windows registry.
However, if you truly want to optimize the speed and performance of your computer, defragging those three aspects of the operating system are the most important! If you think about it, the system files, the page file and the registry are constantly being accessed by Windows in order to complete any task.
Combine or merge multiple text files using TXTCollector

Recently I wrote about a program called PowerPoint Joiner that combines multiple Powerpoint files into one, quite useful when working in groups and each individual creates a separate file for their part. Merging the files together manually can be a royal pain, especially if you have many files.
You may also come across the need to merge multiple text files into one larger text file. For example, you may receive a CD that contains hundreds of text files, all in different directories, which you need to combine into one file for importing into Excel, etc.
