Creating labels in Blogger to organize your posts

Posted on April 2, 2007 at 11:27 pm

Goodness, I just spent the last 3 hours fixing all of my previous posts so that I would be using labels correctly! Thankfully, I only had about 160 or so posts to go through and not hundreds and hundreds. If you’re just starting out in Blogging and you’re using Blogger, then you definitely want to make sure to use labels or categories or tag to organize your posts.

Otherwise, people coming to your site will not be able to find your other posts quickly and this will just be very annoying. Also, try to keep the number of labels/categories/tags to a minimum. At first, if I was writing a post on Google’s Picasa program, I would write as a label “How to use Google Picasa” and “Google Picasa Tips”, etc. And if I wrote a post on GMAIL, similiarly I would label it as “Google GMAIL Tips”, etc. But this meant that after my 150 posts, I had about 300 different labels!

I realized later on that the whole point of the labels is to organize your posts into some kind of folder type hiearchy. Don’t think of them as “keywords” to your post or anything like that, Google already indexes everything on your page, so you don’t need to use the labels as a keyword tool. If you want to use Keywords, use those in your title or in your actualy post!
