A big list of desktop blogging software/editors

With so many bloggers out there not using anything other than the default built-in blog editors for their posting, I thought it would be good to post a list of all the blog editors that I can think of. Using a blog editor can significantly increase your productivity when it comes to writing a post. While I was on Blogger, I used to spend an extra few minutes on each post inserting images, resizing images, deleting extra spaces that would appear after inserting a new image, etc.
I won’t go through a give the goods and bads of each editor, but here are a few things you want to keep in mind when deciding which blog editor to use:
1. One-click publishing – Should be able to click one button and have your article automatically posted to your blog.
2. Good tag integration – Tags are very important for any blog if you want to get backlinks, so a editor that automatically lets you insert Technorati, del.icio.ous, and other tags is key.
3. Spell checking – Make sure you have an editor that does real-time spell checking.
4. Offline post writing – Of course you should be able to write an entire post offline and then post it once you get connected to the Internet.
5. Manage more than one blog – If you have multiple blogs, find an editor that can manage more than one platform so that you can blog on WordPress, TypePad, LiveJournal, etc all with one editor.
6. WYSIWYG - Most editors are pretty good at this, but sometimes things might not come out correctly, so you should be able to edit the HTML code yourself. Usually, problems occur with images.
7. Blog Backup – Even though you have plugins to do this for you, may as well have a backup of the blog on your local computer also. I use Windows Live Writer and I simply downloaded all of my old blog posts as a backup.
8. Plugin Support – Make sure your editor has a lot of people developing plugins for it, otherwise you could end up missing out on a lot of cool features.
Any more thoughts, post a comment! Ok, now here’s the list of all the editors I could find:
If I missed a few, please post a comment and I’ll add it on to the list! Thanks!
