More Keyboard Shortcuts – Windows Logo Key Shortcuts

Last week I wrote a post on Microsoft Word shortcuts and thought I would throw in another post on more shortcuts, this time Windows Logo key shortcuts. These can be very handy for quickly accessing system control panels or to search for files. The Windows logo key is usually on the left side of the keyboard on the bottom row.

Windows: Display the Start menu

Tweak Windows XP Settings with TweakUI

Since I just wrote a post on how to tweak Windows Vista, I thought I would throw in some power toys for the Windows XP users. Windows XP is not going to disappear any time soon, so if you still have not gotten around to customizing it the way you want, take a minute and read through this article.

One of the best programs for tweaking Windows XP is the TweakUI PowerToy utility from Microsoft. Using this nifty little program, you can fine-tune many Windows settings quickly and easily. You can many settings, from how to group items in the taskbar to disabling or getting rid of those annoying shortcut icon arrows on the desktop.

It’s amazing how many times you will find yourself in a situation where you have to change or modify the dates for a file or folder, such as the creation date, last modified date or the last accessed date! I’m not really going to wonder WHY anyone would need to do this, but based on my own experience, I have found it very handy in certain circumstances (ahem)!

microsoft wordHere’s a list of Microsoft Word keyboard shortcuts that I have been using for years and that I thought I would share with the other billion Word users out there who may not readily use them. Word is amazing powerful and if you become well-versed in using the shortcuts, you can really save yourself a lot of time having to move your hand to your mouse in order to right-click or highlight text.

Now I’m not going to go through the really easy shortcuts like copy and paste as I am assuming you have used Word many times before reading this post!

How to Fix "There are no Active Mixer Devices Available" Error Message in Windows

I recently worked on a client’s computer that was giving them the error “no active mixer devices available” whenever they clicked on the volume icon in their task bar. This problem came up out of nowhere and it was almost of if the computer never had sound before! In the Sound and Audio Devices applet in Control Panel, everything was grayed out and there was a message saying “No audio device” under the Volume tab.
